Double Creek, Sturgill, Nebo, Goat Mountain Two FiresSeptember 18, 2022Daily Update – 8:00 AM Highlights: Fire activity will remain minimal through the weekend allowing firefighters to take advantage of the cooler and wetter weather. A suppression repair branch was activated today. The goal of suppression repair is to return damaged areas to a stable condition that reflects pre-fire conditions. Post-fire repair efforts include debris removal, fence and gate repair, dozer line rehab, and other damage repair related to wildland fire suppression operations. Double Creek Fire: 157,185 acres | 27% contained |740 personnel assigned The lightning-caused Double Creek Fire is a full suppression fire, with the protection of lives and property the primary objectives. Crews scouted the northern perimeter of the fire to identify areas for suppression actions. Firefighters are planning to take advantage of the cooler and wetter weather to limit the fire’s spread. Cedar Creek Fire September 18, 2022 Daily Update at 8:15 AM Cedar Creek Fire Quick Facts Size: 112,287 acres Contained: 0% Start Date: August 1, 2022 Origin: 15 miles east of Oakridge, Oregon Cause: Lightning Total personnel: 2,498Resources: 90 engines, 55 crews, 106 heavy equipment, 12 helicopters West Zone Update: Firefighters took advantage of brief windows of opportunity to complete almost 2,000 more acres of firing operations to secure primary containment line along the west and southwest edge of the Cedar Creek Fire Saturday. Crews were engaged throughout the shift felling snags (dead or fire weakened trees) and burning to reduce ground vegetation between the main fire and the primary containment line. Firing operations included both hand ignition and the use of drones. The western boundary extends to Township 34S Range 9 West and the eastern boundary extends to Township 34 South Range 6 West. Please see attached map. Evacuations Are Lifted For Rum Creek Fire Area MERLIN, Ore. – The Rum Creek fire remains 83 percent contained with no new growth for a week. Seasonal patterns of mild temperatures and high relative humidity are setting in for this area, lowering risk for future flare-ups within the fire perimeter. Suppression repair utilizing large, mechanized equipment and hand crews will continue throughout the Rum Creek Fire. Most repair work, including road blading, grading of roads, and contingency lines, is expected to be completed by Sunday or Monday. Some of the steeper dozer lines, including on the south side of the fire, will take a little longer to stabilize. For the safety of both residents and firefighters, please practice situational awareness and patience while accessing roads and recreation sites within fire-impacted areas. As fuel moisture and weather permit, more aerial ignition will occur to slowly bring the main fire toward the completed burnout. In the East Zone, light westerly winds will influence fire spread to the east and potentially consume unburned fuels. Areas east and southeast of the Cedar Creek Fire will have the greatest smoke impacts, including: La Pine, Crescent Lake, and Silver Lake.
