Rum Creek Fire Daily Update for September 20 (Rum Creek Fire Wildfire)

MERLIN, Ore. – Low pressure off the northern California coast will bring unsettled weather to the Rum Creek Fire over the next few days. Scattered shower and periods of rain are expected through Wednesday with a drying pattern beginning later in the week. Overnight, the fire received a quarter of an inch of rain. Additional moisture may produce small debris flows in the burn area. Isolated thunderstorms may bring the potential for lightning, but with high relative humidity levels the chances for new fire starts will be low. Containment has increased to 87-percent with 287 personnel assigned to the incident. Today, crews are focusing on rehabilitation of areas with greatest potential to affect public safety. A Type 3 Incident Management Team, under the leadership of Incident Commander Brandon Kerns, assumed command of the Rum Creek Fire today at 0700. The team’s safety message to the community is to remember that the fire,...

  Cedar Creek Fire September 20, 2022 Daily Update at 8:15 AM   Cedar Creek Fire Quick Facts Size: 113,637 acres Contained: 11% Start Date: August 1, 2022 Origin: 15 miles east of Oakridge, Oregon Cause: Lightning Total personnel: 2,451 Resources: 91 engines, 53 crews, 97 heavy equipment, 12 helicopters Status: The fire is 11% contained, with containment line on the west side of the fire between Forest Service Road 24 and Fifth Creek, the stretch from Charlton Lake west to the shore of Waldo Lake, and the north and west shores of Waldo Lake. Oakridge and communities west of the fire will experience the most smoke as southeast winds continue today. The West Zone of the fire is currently burning with low intensity creeping, and smoldering. Cool and Humid Conditions Continue to Aid Suppression EffortsMERLIN, Ore. – Rum Creek fire area is holding at 83 percent containment with no new fire growth. Crews continue to be downsized, with 330 people remaining. Unsettled weather will continue for several days bringing higher humidity levels and scattered showers. Wind gusts of up to 22 mph are expected for the second day in a row for upper slopes and ridges. Isolated lightning levels today and tomorrow are not predicted to start fires but could bring rain levels strong enough to wash soils, provide instability in burned areas, and be a safety concern for public and fire crews within the fire perimeter. Crews will focus on suppression, mop up, patrol, rehab/repair, and hazard tree mitigation.Today we will begin the transition to a Type 3 Incident Management Team under the leadership of Incident Commander Brandon Kerns. In general, rainfall was highest in the southwest and decreased as you move northeast.
