Rum Creek Fire Final Daily Update for September 23 (Rum Creek Fire Wildfire)

FINAL DAILY UPDATE: Based on current and expected fire activity, this will be the final daily update for the Rum Creek Fire Warmer weather and low relative humidity levels forecasted for this weekend will assist fire crews on their mission to seek and destroy any lingering heat within 200-feet of containment lines. Fire crews are on track to meet all suppression goals and are winding down this weekend with operations expected to come to an end early next week.Containment is currently 90-percent.Heavy equipment and fire crews are still travelling and working along roads within and near the fire area. If your weekend recreation plans include travel near the forest, please to use caution and keep in mind that recreational and road closures are still in place. Cedar Creek Fire September 23, 2022 Daily Update at 8:30 AM  Cedar Creek Fire Quick Facts Size: 113,809 acres Contained: 17% Start Date: August 1, 2022   Origin: 15 miles east of Oakridge, Oregon Cause: Lightning Total personnel: 1,990 Resources: 50 engines, 34 crews, 68 heavy equipment, 8 helicopters West Zone Operations: The smoke and fog lifted in the morning, providing warmer and drier weather. Firefighters have been successful with mop up operations including extinguishing hot spots, breaking apart smoldering debris, and cutting snags and fire weakened trees along the western edge of the fire. This has secured the fireline along Forest Service Roads 2409 and 1928 which are northeast of the High Prairie community. Crews will continue patrolling this section of line to check for any hot spots.  A warming trend will begin today as the low-pressure system that brought almost a half-inch of rain to the fire area begins to move east. Small vegetation gains moisture quickly, but it also loses moisture quickly. As the sun returns, along with warmer temperatures and lower humidity levels, pockets of unburned vegetation will once again be available to burn. An increase in smoke production is possible as temperatures move back into the 80’s this weekend.While larger fuels in the fire’s interior, such as logs and stumps, will continue to smolder until winter arrives, firefighters expect to complete mop up operations within the next week. When completed, fire personnel will have located and extinguished any remaining pockets of heat within 200-feet of containment lines. A Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation (ESR) team is being briefed today. Crews are making progress on mop up operations by extinguishing hot spots and cutting snags and fire weakened trees along the western edge of the fire. Firefighters have prepared the control line southwest of the main fire. Although the fire has not made it to Constitution Grove, firefighters have been adding protection measures such as more pumps, sprinklers and hoselays to further protect the area in case fire pushes in that direction over the coming days or weeks. The weather prevented firing operations in the south and southwestern area of the fire. On the north side of the fire, key equipment arrived for specialized work to accomplish fireline preparations along Forest Service Road 19. Crews have been mopping up the western edge of the fireline by cutting dead and fire weakened trees and extinguishing hot spots. These efforts are ongoing. As conditions allow, firefighters are checking on various recreation and special sites within the burn area.
