Lionshead Fire Update – Saturday, September 26, 2020 - 10 a.m.  More Winds Test Control LinesSpecial Notice: The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team shared a pre-recorded Public Meeting message to discuss the fire situation and evacuation level changes in Marion County.The recording is available on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/1383001042049433/ ). Current Situation: Friday brought quite a bit of rain to the west side of the fire. This raised fuel moisture and helped reduce the immediate danger of additional spread in that area. The east side received spotty precipitation and gusty southwest winds. Fuel moistures on the east side of the crest remain somewhat lower. The wind and dry fuels have resulted in some fire activity in green islands within the fire perimeter. These islands may put up smoke during expected windy conditions today. NEWS RELEASE Release date: September 25, 2020   North and east areas of Mt. Hood National Forest to reopen Saturday Many forest areas that were closed following the historic Labor Day windstorm that brought down thousands of trees and propelled the Riverside Fire will reopen on Saturday, September 26 at 12:01 a.m.  The forest suffered extensive and severe damage as a result of the storm so many areas will remain closed or are still blocked by trees. On the west side of the forest, areas north of US Highway 26 will reopen.  Land, roads, trails, and recreation sites south of Hwy 26 will remain closed due to widespread damage, debris slides, and the Riverside Fire, which is just under 140,000 acres in size and 34% contained.  The closed area includes all of Clackamas River Ranger District and a portion of Zigzag Ranger District.  The Timberline Trail, Pacific Crest Trail (Timberline to Town Trail), Top Spur Trail, Sandy River Trail (Ramona Falls), and other trails in the immediate...

Special StatementThis will be the final smoke outlook for Riverside, Beachie Creek, and Holiday Farm fires.FireRainfall throughout the day will dampen any remaining smoldering and hot spots. Additional perimeter growth is not expected with minimal fire behavior.. Many stumps, large logs, and roots will remain smoldering within the interior of the fire. As the weather breaks on Saturday, these areas may produce visible smoke but will not threaten the containment of this fire. Crews are continuing to work to extinguish all pockets of heat around the perimeter of these fires. Springfield, Ore. –  Rainy weather continues to help suppression efforts on the Holiday Farm Fire east of Springfield. With some areas of the fire receiving as much as an inch-and-a-half of rain, the level of active fire on the landscape has dropped considerably. The fire remains 173,094 acres and 35 percent contained. Today’s firefighting activity includes continuing to build and improve hand and dozer fire line around the eastern third of the fire’s perimeter and ramping up mop-up operations on the remaining two-thirds. Residents affected by the Holiday Farm Fire will be able to access their properties guided by ODOT pilot car caravans beginning today at 1:00 pm. Pilot car caravans for local residents will run between the road closure points, on the west end two miles east of Vida at milepost 27.55 to east of Finn Rock at milepost 38, one direction at a time. Lionshead Fire Update – Thursday, September 24, 2020 - 10 a.m.  Rain & Wind Affect Firefighting EffortsSpecial Notice: A virtual fire information public meeting was held on September 23, 2020. Please be aware of increased traffic. Current Situation:  The wind picked up Wednesday afternoon, resulting in increased burning in green islands well within the fire's perimeter.  The fire gained some acreage, but containment remained at 15%. Rain fell on the fire overnight. This will reduce fire behavior and should allow crews to make even more progress. The rain was variable, but over an inch fell on some sections of the fire. In the wake of most wildfires, there are dead trees (snags) as well as trees that are fire-weakened that tend to fall, sometimes with little warning. BRATTAIN FIRE UPDATE September 25, 2020 @ 9 AM Map updates will be provided if perimeter lines or access roads change. The Brattain Fire map is current as of the September 23 update, but is still attached for reference. Yesterday: Fire behavior remained minimal, with mop up and suppression repair/rehabilitation activities remaining a top priority. Haze was visible from the northwest corner where there is heavy down and dead fuel loading that continues to burn in the interior. Gusty winds pushed through early but then died down throughout the day. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity helped speed up the cooling process inside the fire perimeter. Road graders worked on the 3360 road today to completion. Safety was top priority during the transition/shadow day with the incoming incident management team, as they became acclimated to objectives, conditions, terrain, routes, concerns and fire activity.
