Daily Update for Lionshead Fire, Sunday, September 27 (Lionshead Fire Wildfire)

September 27, 2020 - 10:41am
Lionshead Fire Update – Sunday, September 27, 2020 - 10 a.m.  Firefighters Anticipate Warming and Drying WeatherSpecial Notice: This will be the last update prepared by the Rocky Mountain Area Type 1 Incident Management Team. Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 13 will assume command of the fire this evening at 8 p.m. Current Situation: Work on the Lionshead fire is proceeding well. Overnight, there was good moisture recovery, but the cool wet weather of the past few days is expected to be replaced today by a warming and drying trend. Shifting winds are also possible. This could result in a slight increase in fire behavior. Winds will likely be out of the east. The changing wind direction could test control lines in some new places. With the drying trend, there could be some fire movement, but a more likely scenario is for most fire activity to continue primarily in green, interior islands. Firefighting Efforts by Division: (Refer to the map for division breakdown.)Very...

9/27 Riverside Fire Daily Update (Riverside Fire Wildfire)

September 27, 2020 - 8:49am
Weather and Fire Behavior: In the past week, more than three inches of rain have fallen over the fire area.  Sunny, clear, dry and breezy conditions are expected through today and into Monday with the potential for 30 mile per hour gusts along east-west orientated drainages.  No spread is expected. It will take a few days of warmer and dry weather before fine fuels such as grass are able to carry fire. East winds may bring more smoke to the area and isolated smokes from vegetation burning within the fire perimeter may be visible. Yesterday: Firefighters patrolled the fire perimeter watching for places near the fireline where heat has held-over through the rains.  Crews on the south end of the fire worked to connect segments of dozer line with handline.      Today’s Activities: Along with handline, containment lines can include a combination of roads, scars from past fires, treated vegetation areas and natural features such as water or expanses of rock that are free...

Detroit and Idanha, OR - Community Support of returning residents (Lionshead Fire Wildfire)

September 27, 2020 - 5:51am
Residents of Detroit and Idanha returned home yesterday for the first time since they were evacuated from the #LionsheadFire and #BeachieCreekFire. Residents were escorted into the area to view the aftermath and assess damage. We realize returning home after a wildfire can be difficult, especially the emotional toll it takes. The extent of property damage was unknown to many homeowners. Residents, local government, and first responders worked in solidarity to support one another as they were able to survey the damage throughout the community and begin the process of rebuilding.  We want to thank everyone for their cooperation with this effort. We wish to especially send our heartfelt condolences for those who have been personally affected by these fires. Thank you all for the strength and courage you have shown. We are stronger together.#detroitstrong #dechutesnf #mthoodnf

Holiday Farm Fire Update 9/26 (Holiday Farm Fire Wildfire)

September 26, 2020 - 11:17am
Springfield, Ore. –  All evacuation levels have been lifted on the Holiday Farm Fire, which is now 45 percent contained. Hazard tree and debris removal will continue along Highway 126, but motor vehicle traffic will be allowed through with a pilot car along a 10-mile stretch between mileposts 28 and 38. While some damaged trees have been removed, ODOT says a second and possibly third round of tree removal will occur as more trees die from fire damage. Property owners may find that more trees will be removed over the next weeks and months. For more information regarding road closures and delays, visit https://www.oregon.gov/odot/Pages/Wildfire.aspx or www.tripcheck.com.   Lingering showers will keep the fire damp today, but a turn to dry, warm weather is on the horizon. Incident meteorologist Tom Wright says that light northwest winds will develop this afternoon and begin to dry out ridgetops throughout the fire area. Warm east winds will return to the area beginning Sunday that...

September 26 Riverside Fire Update (Riverside Fire Wildfire)

September 26, 2020 - 9:58am
Weather and Fire Behavior: Wind speeds up to 40 miles per hour and wet conditions presented challenges for those working on the Riverside Fire Friday.  Fire weakens trees, making them more susceptible to falling during high winds.  Further, after vegetation is burned from around rocks, they are more likely to shift, particularly when rain moistens soils.  Low clouds and forecast precipitation will limit fire behavior today.  Spread rates will be very low.  While precipitation over the area since Wednesday has affected fire behavior, there are places within the perimeter that are sheltered by the tree canopy and continue to smolder. Yesterday: Crews patrolled the fire area, seeking and extinguishing hot spots. Suppression repair work, including constructing waterbars to address potential soil erosion, is ongoing. Good progress is being made working along the Abbott road to secure it as a potential holding line to the north of the fire.   Today’s Activities: Hand...
