Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2, and Delancy Fires September 10, 2021 (Cedar Creek Wildfire)
Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2, and Delancy Fires September 10, 2021 Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Minimal fire behavior occurred in the Cedar Creek Fire this week, with limited isolated creeping and some torching in the Varden Creek drainage and near Slate Lake. On the Cub Creek 2 Fire, some creeping has been observed around the Farewell and Lake Creek vicinity. No activity was observed on the Delancy Fire. Cooler temperatures and higher humidities are expected across both fires this weekend, reducing the likelihood of active fire behavior and smoke production for the next few days. Crews and heavy equipment continue to complete suppression repair across both fire areas, repairing firelines, felling hazard trees along roads, chipping debris, and repairing roads damaged by suppression activity. The shortage of personnel and equipment nationally, plus the need to prioritize these resources for active fires with immediate suppression needs, have slowed the progress...

Fire Behavior Analyst, Jim Hampton - Status of the Cougar Fire (Cougar Peak Fire Wildfire)
Status of the Cougar Peak Fire Fire Behavior Analyst – Jim Hampton On Friday, September 10, the Cougar Peak Fire and most of South-Central Oregon was subject to a band of moisture that moved from northward from California. Precipitation amounts over the region varied widely, from 1/10” to over half an inch. A good estimate of the precipitation received over the fire area is a quarter inch. In some years, this amount at this time of year could be considered a season ending event. This season, however, is not a typical season. This area is in its second consecutive year of drought and entered this fire season in the highest classification of drought measure possible. Likewise, fuel moistures have been at or near record lows for most of the year. Just as today’s rains will not fill our empty reservoirs, it will also not automatically bring an end to this fire season. The next week will bring sunny skies back to the area and the critically dry fuels will respond rapidly to the...

9/10/2021 Update on Muckamuck Fire (Muckamuck Wildfire)
Conconully, WA: Yesterday crews continued their efforts on hot spots and mopping up 150 feet from the perimeter of the fire. Infrared has assisted crews in finding additional hot spots that aren’t seen from gridding the area. The south end of the fire is in patrol status for the most part. While patrolling the southern area of the fire a few hot spots were found and were mitigated by the crews. The repair group continued their task of scouting areas that need repair and working previously identified areas. Today firefighters are continuing mop up and focusing on the hot spots. Patrols will continue on the southern edge of the fire. Most resources are assigned to the north end where most of the heat remains. This is the point of the fire that our crews are working methodically to make sure perimeters are secure and mop up standards are being met. Unfortunately, this is the time they need to be extra vigilant due to the danger of burned-out trees that are ready to fall, stump holes...
