Cedar Creek Fire Update, August 17Acres: 4,836Containment: 0% ·There will be a virtual public meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. on Facebook· https://www.facebook.com/CedarCreekFire2022/ Highlights: Warm and dry conditions increased fire behavior on the southeast corner of the fire yesterday and heavy helicopters were used to cool hot spots to ensure that fire activity remained low in the wilderness. Small helicopters and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (“UAS” also known as “drones”) dropped Plastic Sphere Devices (PSDs) on the southwestern flank to continue backing fire down the ridge into the Cedar Creek drainage on Black Creek Road. Fixed-wing UAS are being used during the night to provide firefighters with additional reconnaissance on the fire’s movement. These large, fixed-wing UAS can be equipped with Infrared technology to monitor for hot spots and provide real-time fire surveillance when traditional aircraft is unable to fly due to line-of-sight restrictions. White River and Irving Peak Fire Update August 16, 2022 (White River Wildfire)
Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. Both fires have burned approximately 676 acres combined with zero containment. Northwest Incident Management Team 7, led by Incident Commander Nate LeFevre, assumed command of these fires at 6:00 a.m. today. Yesterday, firefighters worked to reopen Little Wenatchee Road, securing threatened structures, and dropping water and retardant from helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to moderate fire behavior while containment lines are constructed. Operations: Today, crews will continue preparations along Little Wenatchee Road to secure the area with water and hose lays. Aircraft dropping water and fire retardant will be used to moderate fire behavior and keep the fire from long range spotting. Cedar Creek Fire, August 16, 8:00 a.m.Acres: 4,657Containment: 0% ·There will be a virtual public meeting tomorrow, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. on Facebook· https://www.facebook.com/CedarCreekFire2022/ Highlights: Yesterday crews continued work on the shaded fuel break from Forest Road (FR) 19 south to Highway 58. Heavy equipment and crews have completed approximately one and one-half miles of road prep along this contingency fire line with approximately five and one-half miles left to complete. Fire managers in cooperation with the Willamette National Forest have closed FR 1928 and the Huckleberry Flats OHV area through Friday for the safety of the public and firefighters working in the area. Crews were also able to wrap fire-resistant aluminum foil around the Taylor Burns Guard Station north of Waldo Lake at the end of Irish Taylor Road. Heavy equipment including feller bunchers, masticators, and graders continued working on roads in multiple areas of the fire, including along Forest Road (FR) 2419 and FR 1944 north of the fire area. Smoke from the fires is highly visible in the Lake Wenatchee area, and recreationists are advised to stay away from the Little Wenatchee and White River Roads where these fires are burning.
