There is currently no threat to established lines, natural resources, or other values at risk in the fire area and fire behavior at present will benefit the forest floor where it is consuming dead and down timber litter. White River and Irving Peak Fires Spanish Language Update August 21, 2022 (White River Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - August 21, 2022 - 11:48am

White River and Irving Peak Fires Update August 21, 2022 (White River Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - August 21, 2022 - 10:17am
Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA.Suppression Strategy: Both fires are being suppressed with a combination of strategies and tactics that provide the highest likelihood of success while mitigating risks to fire fighters. There is no opportunity for firefighters to work safely and effectively at the fire’s edge in this extremely steep and inaccessible terrain. Instead, firefighters are constructing indirect fire line using existing roads that will more effectively contain the fire if conditions encourage its spread.Operations: Firefighters have assessed over 430 structures near Lake Wenatchee, and continue structure preparation. Crews are putting incident objectives into action, creating indirect fire lines along the White River Road, Sears Creek Road, and Little Wenatchee Road. Chipper operators anticipate a few more days of...

Cedar Creek Fire Update, August 21 (Cedar Creek Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - August 21, 2022 - 9:59am
Current Situation: Late yesterday afternoon fire was carefully and deliberately introduced into an unburned area of the Waldo Lake Wilderness, between the lake and the eastern edge of the wildfire. This is being done so firefighters can enter the wilderness and create a fireline to stop the fire from spreading further to the south. In the coming days, firefighters will hike into the wilderness and create an “anchor” point for the line where the fire meets Waldo Lake. They will then engage the fire using Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics (MIST), including setting up pumps and hoses. These tactics also take advantage of natural barriers like lakes and marshy areas to balance suppression objectives with environment impacts. Waldo Lake will not be used as a water source for this operation. Also Saturday, firefighters successfully brought fire down to the primary line on Black Creek Road (FR 2421) west of the Joe Goddard Interpretive Site. Night shift personnel monitored that area...
