Carpenter Road Fire AM Update 8/31/15 (Carpenter Road Fire Wildfire)
Carpenter Road Fire Update The Carpenter Road Fire is estimated at 65,130 acres and 35% contained. After wetting rain and a cool night, containment has risen to 35%. Overnight crews worked on spot fires on the north and improved containment lines on the west and south of the fire. Red Marble Road was also cleared of large fuels to mitigate fire spread. Work will continue today to reinforce the line. The west side of the fire is in the containment zone and under patrol status. The south side of the fire will continue to have smoldering stumps and smoke. Crews on the east side are strengthening dozer lines already in place. The more active north side of the fire is expecting low to moderate spread. Firefighters continue to work on spots in this area. Air resources will be used contingent on weather which is expected to be fair but breezy with 20mph gusts and a chance of light rain. All sides of the fire are currently staff with fire suppression personnel. The fire has caused...
Cougar Creek Fire Daily Update 8.31.2015 (Cougar Creek Wildfire)
GLENWOOD, WA - Cougar Creek Fire crews took advantage of the cool wet weather over the weekend and continued to build line and prepare for additional burnout operations along Potato Hill Road. The east portion of the fire moved into patrol status as cooler temperatures and rain helped crews as they mopped up hot spots and strengthened containment lines. Today and tomorrow crews will prepare for additional burnouts that may take place on the northern and northeast part of the fire later this week if conditions become favorable. Crews continue to patrol and reinforce completed lines along the west, south, and east flanks of the fire. Though the south end of the fire received a wetting rain, the rain did not penetrate the canopy in the northern portion of the fire. These areas will dry out quickly as the effects of the rain dissipate over the next few days. As vegetation dries out firefighters will be on the lookout for re-kindling of previously burned areas and snags that remain a...
Aug 31 Update (Upper Skagit Complex Wildfire)
General Announcements: State Route 20 opened on Sunday, August 30th. Temporary, intermittent closures may be required for helicopter and heavy equipment work on power lines and towers. For the latest updates contact North Cascades Highway Hotline at 360 707-5055. Significant precipitation over the past 48 hours, and predictions for continued rain through Friday, have reduced fire activity for the entire complex. Smoldering in dense fuels, those not exposed directly to the rain, can be expected for several weeks. Future challenges will mainly be weather related as heavy rain could bring debris flows onto the highway and limit fire access points. Great Basin Team 4, Incident Commander Chris Wilcox, will transfer management back to the local organization on Tuesday September 1st at 4 pm. Today’s Activities: Crews will continue to treat hazardous trees around the National Park Visitor Center, and adjacent areas affected by the fires. Road and Area Closures: Washington...
Carpenter Road Fire PM Update 8/30/15 (Carpenter Road Fire Wildfire)
Carpenter Road Fire Update The Carpenter Road Fire is estimated at 65,130 acres and 35% contained. The morning rain enhanced firefighter’s prospects to further contain the fire. However, heavy fuels remain dry and the additional moisture will only slow the fire for a few days. The fire will maintain a northeasterly direction as a result of the southwestern prevailing winds, although the rate of spread has lessened considerably. The fire has grown 957 acres since midnight. Crews are continuing to build line and burn out the western and eastern fire boundaries of the northern extension of the fire overnight. The southern portion is contained as fire crews continue to mop-up existing control lines and around structures. This evening’s weather presents an excellent opportunity for crews to construct and secure line along the active northern half of the fire and mop-up operations will continue in areas around homes and other structures. There will be little to limited...

Evacuation Levels Unchanged August 30, 2015 (North Star Wildfire)
Republic, Wa - Evacuation Levels have not changed in the Republic Area despite the moist weather pattern. Rain yesterday and today is benefitting firefighting efforts on the North Star Fire and elsewhere in Washington. Grasses, and light (or small) vegetation, susceptible to immediate ignition are soaking up the moisture from the rain. However, these same fuels will dry out just as quickly when the sun comes out and winds pick up. During rain showers, like what we are currently experiencing, heat and fire remains in heavy vegetation like downed logs and in areas where tree canopies serve as shelter for the vegetation below. When dry weather returns, the fire danger will return as well. Please respect the evacuation orders. Weather conditions, fire behavior and the potential for fire spread are constantly being evaluated and as soon as it is determined that the threat from the North Star fire to the Republic community has been reduced, the Sheriffs Department will announce...
