Masticators are being utilized to reduce fuel loads along FSR 45, removing brush and dead and down timber litter. Expanded emergency fire closure area issued by the Bureau of Land Management for Rum Creek Fire   August 28, 2022Medford, Oregon – As a result of continued fire growth, the Bureau of Land Management Grants Pass Field Office has expanded the temporary closure of BLM-managed lands in the vicinity of Rum Creek Fire for public and firefighter safety. Members of the public may not enter closed areas, and all uses—including hiking, hunting and dispersed camping—are prohibited. Today’s closure order encompasses all public lands west of Interstate 5 and north of T35S R6W and T35S R7W.  The southwest boundary comprises the line between the BLM and Forest Service lands.  The western boundary includes lands east of East Fork Big Windy Creek and Bunker Creek. Community Meeting Tuesday August 30th at 6:00PM ~ Greenwaters Park Community Building Community Meeting: A community meeting will be held Tuesday August 30th at 6:00PM at Greenwaters Park Community Building, 48362 Highway 58, Oakridge, Oregon. For those unable to attend, the meeting will be streamed live on the Cedar Creek Fire Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CedarCreekFire2022 Current Situation: Observed fire behavior was creeping and smoldering on Saturday and there was limited fire growth thanks to cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Crews have been working to establish fireline from the west shore of Waldo Lake to the western edge of the Wilderness boundary. One snag fell across Edith Creek and crews were successful in extinguishing the resulting spot fire and held the fire west of Edith Creek. Fireline has been completed along FS Road 5883.  Crews have been mopping up and patrolling Black Creek Road (FS Road 2421) day and night to keep the fire north of the road....

 Additional agency resources join Rum Creek Fire MERLIN, Ore. – With the growing complexity of the Rum Creek Fire, Northwest 13 Incident Management Team has been joined by two state agencies to form a unified command of the suppression operation. The end of the day Saturday, Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Incident Management Blue Team and Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team 1 had integrated seamlessly.  “We want to recognize the exceptional mutual aid work provided by Rogue Valley Task Forces and Rural Metro firefighters in and around Rand, Almeda and Galice during the past 24 hours,” said OSFM Chief Deputy Travis Medema. Under the Emergency Conflagration Act, OSFM brought six task forces and one hand crew to relieve local mutual aid resources. Highlights: Lightning started the White River and Irving Peak Fires on August 11. They are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA.Operations: Yesterday, firefighters completed nine days of chipping operations and road preparation along 14 miles of the Little Wenatchee Road. Priority now will shift to dozer and mastication work along the 200 and 311 road systems.Firefighters north and east of White River are patrolling and prepared if the fire approaches the fire line. With heat buildup on the southeastern perimeter of the White River Fire, helicopters dropped buckets of water to keep fire spread to a minimum. Today, air operations will monitor the increased fire activity along the southern edge of the White River Fire and apply water as needed. Weather: A cold front moving through the area has contributed to gusty winds across the fire, fueling increased fire behavior. Temperatures will be slightly lower through Sunday night, but a warming and drying trend is predicted beginning Monday. Operations: Yesterday, firefighters continued work along the southern edge of the fire near Big Boulder Creek, as well as removing brush and fuels along FSR 45. Work will continue to strengthen containment lines ahead of an expected warming and drying trend next week that could increase fire activity. Fire: The White River and Irving Peak Fires are burning in the White River and Little Wenatchee drainages upstream from Lake Wenatchee, on either side of Wenatchee Ridge. They have burned a total of 2,522 acres and are each 1% contained. Bulldozers and masticators continue to improve firelines. Fire crews and engines are positioned to hold those lines. Yesterday had modest fire growth, and the same is expected today, with fire backing down steep slopes, continued burning of large fuels within the fire perimeter and some movement sideways along the slope. Smoke: Quieter winds will tend to keep the smoke in the general area of the fire and Lake Wenatchee during the day. In the evening, after the normal nighttime down valley winds start, smoke will move down the Wenatchee River drainage. Aspectos destacados:Los incendios de White River e Irving Peakcomenzaron mediante rayos el 11 de agosto. Arden en el Bosque NacionalOkanagan-Wenatchee, a unas15 millas al noroeste de Plain, WA. Operaciones: Hubo más actividad debido a que los incendios crecieron a lolargo de las laderas al sur y sureste del incendio Irving Peak por causa delviento. Se observó un crecimiento mínimo en el incendio White River ya queque los helicópteros controlaron la propagación del incendio a lo largo delborde sureste hasta la tarde. Los fuertes vientos con ráfagas de hasta 40 mphimpidieron el uso de helicópteros al final de la tarde. Las astilladorascontinuaron trabajando hacia el oeste a lo largo de Little Wenatchee Road y6504 Road.
