Taylor Creek and Klondike Fires Daily Update - August 29 (Taylor Creek Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - August 29, 2018 - 10:30am
Fire Update – Wednesday, August 29, 2018 – 8:00 a.m. Klondike Fire West Zone California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 Jay Kurth, Incident Commander The fire situation west of the Illinois River has changed. The fire is still miles from the Wild Horse contingency line. However, topography, weather and our best science-based fire-spread prediction models now show the need to start methodically “firing out” the Wild Horse Road. The intent is to keep the fire out of Agness, thus removing the risk to life and property. Firefighters and equipment are prioritizing the western containment line, between Seven Mile Peak and the Illinois River. The firing action removes vegetation near the containment line and creates a buffer between the line and the main fire. Fire managers maximize every effort to keep the fire in the smallest footprint and now believe this firing action is necessary to ensure that Agness is protected. The fire west of the Illinois River is located...

The southwest quarter of the fire is where suppression action is focused. Crews continued low intensity ignition from Polar Bear Mountain eastward to Mud Lake—linking into the main fireline. The Crescent Mtn. fire grew 542 acres in the last 24 hours, McLeod grew 256 acres, and Cougar Creek grew 52 acres. Smoke Smoke in the morning will concentrate near active fires. Areas near fires will continue to be impacted by smoke at times especially Winthrop, Twisp, and Plain although as fires are increasingly contained and controlled, smoke impacts should continue to slowly decrease.
