John Day, Prairie City and Hines, OR. – (May 11, 2021) After carefully monitoring conditions across the Forest, fire officials have determined that conditions are within specific parameters, including temperature, relative humidity, and fuel moisture to start prescribed fire operations in specifically planned units. ·       Emigrant Creek Ranger District fire crews are tentatively planning to start ignitions Wednesday May 12 on Silvies 7, approximately 4000 acres and Silvies 12, approximately 800 acres. These units are located between the Silvies River and Highway (Hwy) 395.  Silvies 7 is south of National Forest System (NFS) road 31 and Silvies 12 is north of NFS road 31.  These units will be implemented at the same time with separate organizations.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11/16/20 Archie Creek Fire 100 Percent Contained   ROSEBURG, OR – The Roseburg District, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Umpqua National Forest are declaring that the Archie Creek Fire is 100% CONTAINED as of Monday, November 16, 2020.   Additionally, the Umpqua National Forest is declaring the Thielsen Fire as CONTROLLED.   With the recent change in weather conditions, fire officials with the U.S. Forest Service will officially end fire season on the Umpqua National Forest, effective Monday, November 16, at 12:01 a.m.   With the end of fire season Industrial Fire Precaution restrictions will be lifted on the forest.   During the last several weeks, our area received widespread precipitation which has moderated conditions enough to drop the fire danger to a low status. Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) teams have completed their emergency assessments of the fires impacting USFS lands in Western Oregon. One of the main objectives of their assessments is to identify critical values at risk of additional damage due to recent wildfires. Once they identify those values, they outline the risks and suggest mitigation actions (treatments) to minimize future risk   BAER teams created executive summaries that provide a glimpse into the scientific analysis and results of their assessments. The linked summaries (below) contain a simplified summarization of the work performed by the BAER teams. Please note that treatments identified in these summary documents reflect proposed, but not yet authorized, activities.   Forest Service officials are working closely with local and state agencies on immediate and longer-term recovery needs. AMENDED EMERGENCY CLOSURE ORDER Bureau of Land Management Roseburg District, Swiftwater Resource Area On September 9, 2020, the Roseburg District issued an Emergency Closure Order that closed all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands east of Interstate 5 managed by the Swiftwater Resource Area. Then, on September 28, 2020, the BLM amended the Emergency Closure Order to provide additional public access to areas outside of the Archie Creek Fire suppression operations. This Amended Emergency Closure Order updates the BLM lands that will remain closed until such time as conditions allow for safe use of the public lands. General Information:  On October 16, 2020 the Type 3 Incident Management Team for the Riverside fire also took command of the Mount Hood National Forest portion of the Lionshead Fire. Personnel on both incidents will continue suppression repair efforts for the protection of watersheds and fisheries, as well as with hazard mitigation efforts so Forest areas roads can be opened safely.   Safety of the public and those working in the burn area continues to be the top priority. We ask that the public please respect road and forest closures until hazard mitigation efforts are complete.   Riverside Fire: Oregon Department of Transportation continues to work to remove fire weakened trees and loose rock that would threaten motorists traveling along Hwy 224.
