   Smoke Smoke conditions should improve today with good to moderate conditions throughout the forecast area. Scattered rain fell throughout the fire zone resulting in decreased fire behavior and less smoke production. Temperatures and humidities today should be similar to yesterdays, with a chance of additional showers. Regional smoke from surrounding fires may continue to impact the forecast zone. Smoke impacts will be greater for communities closest to active fire behavior. Weather will be trending to hotter and drier next week with increased smoke impacts when fire behavior increases. Health and Safety Plan to spend time outside today to take advantage of the better air quality! Remember to take precautions to avoid lightning. If you’re feeling healthy, and don’t mind stirring up a few more particulates in your house, it’s a good day to vacuum, dust, burn incense or candles, and fry food.

 Smoke DiscussionToday, cloud cover and cooler temperatures will continue supporting reduced fire activity and smoke emissions. West of the Cascades, Good air quality is likely for locations around and in between Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, Lowell and McKenzie Bridge. Some haze may be present in the afternoon but won't have any major impacts on the forecast. Communities around Oakridge can expect overall Good air quality conditions with periods of Moderate possible throughout the day. East of the Cascades communities around Bend can expect Good air quality with short periods of Moderate possible midday into the afternoon. La Pine, which has been consistently under heavy smoke, should see some relief today. Overall, La Pine and surrounding areas will have Good air quality early. Some smoke occurrences are possible in the afternoon due to downwind location from the Middle Fork

Approximately ½ inch of rain fell in Conconully during the storm. This morning the area will be scouted for hazards like debris flow across the road prior to inserting equipment into the area. Bureau of Land Management Amends Emergency Closure to Open Scaredman Campground Roseburg, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Roseburg District has issued an amended emergency closure on BLM administered-public lands near the Rough Patch Complex Fire. The reduction in the closure area to the Francis Creek road restores access to the Scaredman Recreation Area and Campground. The Scaredman campground will open on Monday, August 23, 2021, for reservations through Recreation.gov. Affected Area: BLM road 24-1-26 (Francis Creek) from the junction with BLM road 25-1E-31 (Canton Creek Road) North to the Roseburg District Boundary in Township 24 South Range 1 West Section 1 will remain as closed.  Forest Road 28 is temporarily impassible between Dumont Creek on the south and continuing north to the 2719 road. This is due to debris rolling out from slopes above and damage caused by the Smith Fire. Umpqua National Forest crews will be working to clear the road as soon as possible. However, an estimated time for reopening is not yet known.The roads and area otherwise remain closed as part of the Forest fire closure, except for residents and landowners who have legal access.  Skyline Ridge Complex Update for Friday, August 20, 2021 (This will be the last regularly scheduled update for the Skyline Ridge Complex. Additional updates may be released as needed). CANYONVILLE, Ore. – Early Friday morning, ODF Incident Management Team 1 transitioned command of the Skyline Ridge Complex back to a local Type 3 organization that is being led jointly by the Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Bureau of Land Management. This local Type 3 organization will oversee the efforts on the Skyline Ridge Complex from this point forward. The fire camp that was located in Tri-City near Exit 103 has been closed and the resources that remain assigned to the Skyline Ridge Complex will move into the fire camp in Milo that is housing resources for the Devils Knob Complex. The 180 firefighters and equipment operators still assigned to the Skyline Ridge Complex will continue patrolling fire lines, mopping up hot spots, backhauling equipment, and conducting fire...

Summit Trail Fire Daily Update for August 20 (Summit Trail Wildfire)

Inchelium, WA – The Summit Trail Fire was started by lightning on July 12, and is burning on the Colville Reservation approximately 17 miles west of Inchelium in terrain that is steep, rough and often difficult to access.  On August 15, an unstaffed contracted masticator from Bay Center, WA working on the Summit Trail Fire was burned over and destroyed as a result of extreme fire growth that occurred that day and evening. Fire growth was estimated to be 10,000 acres with numerous spot fires ignited during the unprecedented event. There were no injuries, and the contractor is working to replace the property. In accordance with Federal Wildland Fire policy, a three-member team made of Bureau of Indian Affairs regional and national safety officers will conduct a review of the incident over the weekend to capture any lessons learned from the event.  On the Summit Trail Fire, cloudy skies and cooler temperatures continue to calm fire behavior so firefighters can safely gain ground on...
