Rum Creek Fire evening update for Saturday, Sept. 3 (Rum Creek Fire Wildfire)
Tactical firing operations aid Rum Creek Fire suppressionMERLIN, Ore. – Since Wednesday, containment of the Rum Creek Fire has grown from 1 percent to 27 percent, largely due to successful tactical firing operations and direct line construction. On the southwest flank of the fire, crews are mopping up a 50-foot buffer between recently burned control lines. Tactical patrols are expanding mop-up from 200 to 300 feet around the community of Galice after two spot fires were extinguished Friday. Mop-up is the process of extinguishing or removing burning material near control lines, felling snags, and trenching logs to prevent them from rolling after an area has burned. The 60 to 80 degree slopes in the river canyon and nearby drainages make trenching a key part of preventing logs and rocks from rolling free of unstable soils. Clearer skies this afternoon allowed fixed wing aircraft and helicopters to help firefighters on the ground manage tactical firing operations into the evening...

Cedar Creek fire Update September 3, 2022 (Cedar Creek Fire Wildfire)
Current Situation: Fire growth has increased toward Furnish Creek in the northern area of the fire. The fire spotted over the retardant line in the southeast area of the fire near Nettle Creek. The north section burned into an older burn scar. Last night, relative humidities recovered well, this combined with lingering clouds throughout the morning will help the fire be less active because of higher moisture levels in the atmosphere. Once the sun comes out in the afternoon fire activity will increase but growth is anticipated to be less than yesterday. Today’s Activities: The northern part of the fire reached an area that is safer to staff today. Fire crews are making deliberate choices on engaging the fire where chances of success are high. In the southwest area of the fire crews will be holding the fire along roads and fire lines. Holding means to watch out for any spot fires across fireline and extinguish them. Operations will also consider burning back into the fire where...
