Cedar Creek Fire Update, Sept 2 (Cedar Creek Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - September 2, 2022 - 9:35am
Current Situation: Please be aware of fire traffic and holiday traffic over the Labor Day Weekend. Drive slowly and do not impede fire traffic. Yesterday, the inversion layer over the fire did not lift. The inversion layer trapped airflow causing smoke to stay in the area. The fire continues to be active with most activity in the northeast section. There was a small spot fire across the southeast line of the fire. Crews were able to respond and work on extinguishing it with the help of helicopter water drops. Waldo Fire Lookout was successfully checked on and rewrapped with protective material (structure wrap) as a part of point protection strategy on the northern area of the fire. Point protection means to protect a significant building or specific area by putting fireline around or using structure wrap should fire burn towards it.  Resource availability and weather over the course of this fire have allowed fire managers to execute successful suppression strategies like the...

Friday weather will test lines on the Rum Creek Fire MERLIN, Ore. – Wildland firefighters are steadily reinforcing lines with strategic firing operations where conditions allow, holding lines and also preparing for future ignitions.  “We’re making progress,” said John Spencer, operations chief for Northwest IMT 13. “The next couple of days will be a test on all the work we’ve done, due to upcoming Red Flag weather for Friday’s shift.”  Today, crews used tactical burning to close an unburned pocket of fuel along the southern fire edge and to proactively stop fire progression northeast of Grave Creek Bridge. Structural task forces are mopping up and monitoring a 200-foot perimeter around the community of Galice and Almeda Bar areas. Cedar Creek Fire Update, Sept 1 (Cedar Creek Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - September 1, 2022 - 10:42am
Current Situation: Weather caused the fire to be active yesterday. As the inversion lifted in the afternoon, it opened the atmosphere allowing increased airflow, combined with hot and dry conditions, fire behavior increased. Activity is expected to be less today because the atmosphere is anticipated to be more stable. Smoke will continue to be visible in nearby communities. Visit https://www.airnow.gov/ for air quality information and real-time smoke map. Today’s Activities: Firefighters are preparing hand dug fireline connecting it to a road near Alice Creek on the west side of the fire. This handline will allow firefighters to consider igniting vegetation between them and where the fire is burning. Burning back into the fire consumes burnable vegetation and allows firefighters to have more control over where the fire can burn. This strategy is being used to allow firefighters to identify safe access points where they can still suppress the fire. Chipping continues in the...
