Kettle River Fire Update - August 20, 2018 (Kettle River Fire Wildfire)
We continue our efforts to “right size” the resources assigned to the Kettle River Fire. During wildfires such as the Kettle River Fire, agency administrators and incident managers make choices to minimize the risk and focus on areas where firefighters can be the most effective. In keeping with that theme, many of the resources have been re-assigned to fires where there is a greater need such as the Tillman Surprise Fire near Loomis, WA. Many of the homeowners and citizens in this community have asked what they can do to help firefighters deal with wildland fires. The biggest help you can give a firefighter is to create a defensible space around your home or other structures. Taking individual responsibility to reduce flammable materials around homes and communities before a fire occurs can help the public and firefighters be safe. Although we understand that there is an inherent risk to what we do as firefighters, no human life is worth a home or structure; we will not put...
