Daily Update - August 26, 2018 (Miles Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - August 26, 2018 - 7:53am
The Miles and Columbus fires will transition to a smaller fire management team Monday morning. This downsizing will be reflected in lower overall personnel and equipment numbers. However, work continues toward full containment of the two fires and repair of areas damaged by firefighting activities is ongoing. Work efforts will be focused on securing and reinforcing fire lines on the east and west ends of the gap between the Miles and Columbus fires, which are slowly burning toward each other. Repair work will focus on restoring no-longer-needed dozer lines and handlines to a more natural state and to prevent runoff from impacting fish-bearing streams. Firefighters will also continue to patrol lines by road and by air to ensure that any flair ups that occur in the fire interior – as was seen yesterday on the Snow Shoe Fire – do not pose a threat to fire containment. Until seasonal rains arrive, stumps, logs, and other ground fuels will continue to produce visible smokes. However,...

InciWeb Articles WA - August 25, 2018 - 10:41am
Fires A little light rain is expected over the northern portion of the forecast area which will help firefighters working on the Crescent Mtn. and McLeod fires in particular. Cooler temperatures and higher humidities will also decrease fire activity on the Cougar Creek fire and allow firefighters opportunities for progress. Smoke Fires will remain active and smoky although damp weather and light W/NW winds over the weekend will cause smoke to remain closer to fires and travel mostly down drainage's and pool in valleys. Expect smoke to travel down the Twisp river valley to the Columbia River, and down the Entiat River.
