Special Statement Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an AIR QUALITY ADVISORY for non-coastal areas of the State due to Hazardous smoke conditions.   Fire Fire activity on the Riverside, Beachie Creek, and Lionshead fires has slowed significantly, showing small pockets of heat along the fireline where crews are working. Today's cooler temperatures and precipitation will help firefighter efforts. Internal pockets and dense understory will continue to smolder and clean up throughout the week.   Smoke Today, air quality continues to gradually improve as low pressure and associated precip pushes further inland. Coastal areas remain Good to Moderate, including Tillamook, Florence, and Coos Bay. The Willamette Valley is starting to see some relief, as rain showers continue throughout Friday. The Big Hollow Fire is 15 miles northwest of Carson and 7 miles southeast of Cougar, Washington. Cool weather and a wetting rain are expected to arrive today and stay through Saturday afternoon. Warm and dry conditions will return Sunday through Tuesday. Yesterday’s Operations: Heavy equipment work was completed on the S6000 and S1000 roads. A direct line was cut north of the spot fire within the DNR Siouxon block. Prep along the 3105 and 3107 has been completed. Sprinkler installation and operational checks were completed around Government Mineral Springs cabins. Crews continued to monitor the fire in the Trapper Creek drainage. The fire west of Wind River road and the work on the 54 road was monitored. Today’s Operations: Patrols will continue along the 57 and 58 roads. BRATTAIN FIRE UPDATE September 17, 2020 @ 9 AM Yesterday: Additional aircraft, more engines and hotshot crews arrived at the incident.  In the northwest, containment lines were established using roads, dozer lines, natural breaks and old burn scars. Forest Road 3510 and Clover Flat Road were prepped as containment lines on the south and southwest perimeters where the fire was creeping downslope.  Dozer lines were able to tie in on the northwest with good black line near the Ben Young fire scar.  As the day progressed, direct fire attack tactics were implemented in the south to protect private property, critical infrastructure and timber resources. Firefighters concentrated yesterday on the East and West flanks of the fire on the south side of Highway 12. Both hand crews and heavy equipment were used to place containment lines connecting it the North side of Clear Creek. The fire has not moved across the creek. There is a forecast later this week for winds to start blowing from the West and the goal is to make sure the southern portion of the fire does not continue to grow towards the Rimrock area. Holiday Farm Fire Temporary Suspension of Activity (Holiday Farm Fire Wildfire)

Due to forecasted hazardous weather conditions including rain, wind, potential lightning and hail, we will be suspending operations for all utility companies and non-essential people from entering the level 3 evacuation area and all areas within the fire footprint starting at 1800 tonight 9/17 through 9/18 at 1800.  Depending on weather conditions the suspension of activity may be extended in 24-hour increments. Incident Commanders are concerned about fire weakened trees and rocks falling into the roadway or areas personnel are working. Homeowners who have chosen not to evacuate are directed to remain at home or evacuate during this weather event and not travel the road system within the fire perimeter.  Previously issued road access permits may be temporarily suspended and access denied during these periods. The fire’s perimeter measures more than 260 miles or roughly Portland to Medford. The weather forecast predicts thunder storms with gusty winds, heavy rain and hail this afternoon and evening. Winds are likely to increase as storms push into the area and a transition to (possibly heavy) rain. This weather could bring isolated washouts and slides on slopes and along roads. Fire managers ask that the public complete any necessary tasks and then avoid roads within and around the fire area after 3 p.m. This will help to keep the public safe and will maintain safe routes for firefighters and utility crews should they need to seek refuge from the storm. PORTLAND, Ore. – As a result of extreme fire activity, the Bureau of Land Management Northwest Oregon District has temporarily closed all recreation sites and certain roads through September 30.All BLM developed campgrounds in northwestern Oregon are closed to the public, and dispersed camping is prohibited. Members of the public may not enter closed recreation areas. This temporary closure covers the northwestern part of the state, west of the Cascade Range and north from Cottage Grove to the Columbia River. Additional temporary use restrictions are also in place, to prevent additional fire starts. El incendio de Big Hollow se ubica 15 millas al noroeste de Carson y 7 millas al sur de Cougar (Washington). Se espera que para hoy llegue un clima frío y húmedo que se mantendrá hasta el sábado, y también hay probabilidad de tormentas eléctricas para esta noche.
