Fire Summary:Overnight, crews patrolled Highway 97 and Highway 62 to look for visible hot spots and extinguish any that were found. There has been heavy traffic through both Highway 97 and Highway 62 where crews are working. As a remind-er, for firefighter and public safety, if you are traveling through the fire area please slow down and use caution. The two fires outside the main fire, the Dam Fire and the Cattle fire, are fully contained and in patrol status. Those fires will continue to be monitored periodically through the next couple weeks. With the cooler weather expected today, it will help firefighters in their containment efforts. The northwest section of the fire continues to be the most difficult area. MEDFORD, ORE - Southwest Oregon is currently experiencing high fire danger along with large fires and a high number of displaced residents. To address the information needs of the community, the Bureau of Land Management Medford District, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and the Oregon Department of Forestry have activated a Wildfire Information Center. The center’s mission is to answer questions and provide information about fire conditions, public lands closures and public use fire restrictions. The Wildfire Information Center is publishing an information blog that aggregates fire information being produced by the various Incident Management Teams and makes it available in one location creating a one-stop-shop. A call center is available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven-days a week. Springfield, Ore. –Infrared flight mapping was unavailable again last night, the Holiday Farm Fire’s footprint is currently estimated at 172,510 acres and containment remains at 10%. The fire’s perimeter measures more than 260 miles. A tree faller was injured by a fallen limb while working to clear roads within the fire area. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance for evaluation and treatment. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening. Friday’s weather-An upper low will move across the fire area today and bring showers. The weather forecast continues to predict possible afternoon thunder storms with gusty erratic winds and small hail. Showers continue tonight and into Saturday but will gradually diminish. Lincoln City, OR. – Officials with the Echo Mountain Complex have completed preliminary structural damage assessments in the fire area. 293 residential structures have been determined to be a total loss. An additional 22 residential structures have sustained damage. Numerous outbuildings, automobiles, RVs, trailers, boats, and other personal property were also destroyed. “It’s a miracle that we are able to report that there are no fatalities associated with this incident.” said Incident Commander Rick Dolan. Specialized teams of structural specialists have been on-site at the incident since Monday to conduct inventories and assessments of structural damage. Each of the impacted properties throughout the fire area has been assessed for loss or damage. Lincoln County will be publishing a more comprehensive and finalized list of structures by address at a later date. Two fires currently burning in a mix of timber and brush on the Colville Indian Reservation and one in patrol status comprise the Inchelium Complex: Inchelium Highway Fire, Kewa Fields Fire, and Fry Fire. All three fires are being managed for full suppression. Crews remain focused on securing exterior lines with an emphasis on mopping up around structures, and the ongoing protection of natural and cultural resources.Fire managers are developing a suppression repair plan. The plan will identify actions to repair post-fire damages and minimize potential impacts such as soil erosion resulting from suppression activities.Current Situation: On the Inchelium Highway Fire crews continued to mop up and reinforce fire lines along the northwest flank. Morning update 9/18/20 (Cold Springs Fire Wildfire)
Omak, WA – Yesterday crews continued their work on repairing fencing and roads that were damaged during initial attack operations. On the northeast corner of the fire crews will continue repair work and chipping operations where containment lines were constructed. Most of the resources fighting this fire will be demobilized over the next few days as their work is completed, leaving a small force of local resources to manage the fire under a Type 4 team. The Cold Springs Fire started on Sunday evening 9/6/20 and is 189,923 acres and is now 85% contained. Approximately 78 primary residences and 60 secondary buildings were lost or damaged during initial attack operations. There are approximately 142 firefighters from local agencies and from around the region that are engaged in firefighting operations.
