July 13, 2024 - 2:34am
...HOT, DRY, AND UNSTABLE WITH A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS OVER SOUTHEAST OREGON THIS WEEKEND... ...DRY AND BREEZY CONDITIONS IN THE COLUMBIA BASIN AND KITTITAS VALLEY SUNDAY... Hot, dry, and unstable conditions look to continue through the weekend with a chance at thunderstorms now on Sunday that could rise up into the region. Meanwhile breezy winds and low RH's may produce critical fire weather conditions for the Columbia Basin and Kittitas Valley on Sunday. The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a Red Flag Warning for dry and unstable conditions, which is in effect from 11 AM this morning to 8 PM PDT this evening. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 642 Southern Blue and Strawberry Mountains. * WINDS...West 5 to 10 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 9 percent. * TEMPERATURES...Up to 99. * IMPACTS...For the Red Flag Warning - Any new and existing fires have a strong potential for extreme fire behavior. For the fire weather watch - New fire starts with cloud- to- ground lightning should be expected with any storms that develop. Gusty outflow winds will threaten fires with rapid growth. * THUNDERSTORMS...Any storms that develop will initially have little to no rainfall, but will be capable of producing strong, gusty outflow winds. * OUTFLOW WINDS...Gusts of 35 to 50 mph possible. * HAINES...As high as 6. Red Flag Warning issued July 13 at 2:09AM PDT until July 13 at 8:00PM PDT by NWS Medford OR

July 13, 2024 - 2:09am
...Complex fire weather environment evolves this weekend... .Hot, dry and windy conditions will remain in place over most of Oregon today, although approaching monsoon moisture from the south will increase the threat of lightning across the forecast area this afternoon and evening. Storms will likely be on the drier side today given available moisture in the air. The threat for storms is higher on Sunday as the moisture content increases. ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH NOW IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING FOR ABUNDANT LIGHTNING ON DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 624 AND 625... * IMPACTS...Given the recent prolonged stretch of very hot and very dry conditions, lightning efficiency will be high to very high for fire starts. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. * AFFECTED AREA...For the Red Flag Warning today, critical conditions due to gusty winds and low RH are expected north of a line from Chiloquin to Paisley while lightning on dry fuels is expected south. * WIND...Southwest 15 to 25 with gusts to 25 and 35 mph. * HUMIDITY...7 to 12 percent. * THUNDERSTORMS...Isolated to scattered high based storms that are likely to have very little to no precipitation, especially outside of storm cores. Lightning strikes outside of precipitation cores are possible and cause for concern. * OUTFLOW WINDS...Gusts up to 35 mph.
