Inchelium Highway Fire - A reduced, Level 2 evacuation is in effect for residents near Hall Creek and Seyler Valley Road.Fry Fire - A reduced, Level 2 evacuation is in effect for residents living near Twin Lakes and Meteor Road including North & South Twin. Kewa Field Fire - This area remains under a Level 2 Evacuation for residents in Kewa Valley. A Level 1 Evacuation is in effect for Stray Dog Canyon.

Pearl Hill and Apple Acres Fire Update for Wednesday, September 9, 2020Northwest Incident Management Team 6 with Incident Commander Shawn Sheldon is managing both Pearl Hill and Apple Acres Fires. A high-pressure system is expected to strengthen over the area today bringing light, variable winds out of the east to northeast, similar to yesterday. Today’s temperatures are expected to be about five degrees warmer than yesterday but could be moderated by heavy smoke. Smoke may limit air operations over the fire today. Apple Acres FireCrews are rapidly establishing firelines around the perimeter of the fire. However, the fire is actively burning immediately adjacent to those firelines in many areas and spot fires are common across the lines. A five-acre spot fire outside the lines grew rapidly yesterday evening and was very visible from Chelan, resulting in numerous telephone calls to the fire information line and 911. Inchelium Complex Update Sep. 9, 2020 (Inchelium Complex Wildfire)
Three fires actively burning in a mix of timber and brush on the Colville Indian Reservation comprise the Inchelium Complex: the Inchelium Highway Fire, Fry Fire and Kewa Field Fire. All three fires are being managed for full suppression. The cause of the fires remains under investigation. At 6:00 a.m. today, Interagency Northwest Incident Management Team 7 with IC, Eric Knerr assumed management of the Inchelium Complex. Current Situation: Fire managers are looking for opportunities to engage the fires in a full suppression strategy, while prioritizing firefighter and public safety and protecting values at risk. Crews remain focused on point protection with a focus on structures and natural and cultural resources. Aircraft stationed in Omak, WA will be used to help support suppression efforts when wildfire smoke clears enough to provide visibility. Washington Department of Natural Resource Closure Areas for Big Hollow Fire (Big Hollow Wildfire)
Closure of Siouxon Block and Merrill Lake Natural Conservation Area Effective immediately: The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has closed the Siouxon Forest Block and Merrill Lake Natural Resources Conservation Area (including Merrill Lake Campground and Day Use Area) to public access due to the impacts of the Big Hollow Fire. This closure includes all designated and dispersed recreation, and all road systems and trails located within these two areas. The closure will remain in effect, for public safety, until further notice. Morning Update 9-9-20 (Cold Springs Wildfire)
Omak, WA – Firefighting efforts overnight focused on structure protection and working on containment lines. Additional personnel arrived overnight and will be on the fire line today. Structure protection is a primary focus and will continue throughout the day. Air resources will be in over the fire again to assist with the firefighting efforts on the ground. Aircraft were used on the fire yesterday and were highly effective. Firefighters will be assessing properties that were lost as well as damaged infrastructure while on the line today. Temperatures today will be back in the 90’s with low relative humidity levels and light winds. There are approximately 200 firefighters engaged in firefighting operations. Evans Canyon Fire Update September 9 (Evans Canyon Wildfire)
This is the Final Update for the Evans Canyon Fire The Evans Canyon Fire is located approximately 8 miles north of Naches, Washington. Skies cleared in the Evans Canyon Fire area yesterday. Temperatures will be warmer today, in the mid-80s in the valleys, with east winds 10-12 mph gusting, to 20 mph. Yesterday’s Operations: Cooler temperatures and light winds throughout the area allowed crews to extend containment of the fire to 80% after a day of holding the control lines during the extreme weather event. The crews continued with mop-up and suppression repair work. Some of the Evans Canyon Fire crews and resources were reassigned to several fires that started Monday and Tuesday in Central Washington. Firefighters from the Evans Canyon Fire continued to assist with initial attack on new fire starts. Omak, WA – Firefighting efforts today focused on structure protection and working on containment lines. Just before noon a structure fire was reported at the Old Mill in Omak. Crews from the Cold Springs Fire responded to assist the local jurisdictions when the fire ignited spot fires to the east. Air resources supported the firefighting efforts on the ground and helped keep the fires from spreading further. Additional crews have arrived for night operations and look to make additional progress overnight. There are approximately 200 firefighters engaged in firefighting operations. Closure Update Evans Canyon Fire 9/8/2020 (Evans Canyon Wildfire)
All areas previously closed will be opening tomorrow with the exception of the Umtanum Foot Bridge and recreation areas beyond. These areas include Highway 821 (Yakima Canyon Hwy), the Yakima River, boat ramps, and Yakima River Canyon campgrounds, BBQ Flats and Wenas recreation areas along with parts of North Wenas Road, Sheep Company Road, Naches Wenas Road, and Longmire Road will be open. Umtanum Foot Bridge to remain closed. Pacific Northwest Team 12 will be holding its final virtual community meeting on the Evans Canyon Fire hosted via Facebook Live on the Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management Facebook page at 5 PM tomorrow, September 9th.
Upper and Lower Lena Lake and The Brothers Trails Closed (Mt. Lena Fire Wildfire)
Jefferson and Mason Counties, Washington, September 8, 2020 - Due to extreme fire danger and concern for public safety, Olympic National Forest is implementing a fire closure of the Lena Lake trail system (Trails # 810, 811, and 821) due to its proximity to the Mt. Lena Fire. The closure prohibits public access to trails that lead to both Upper and Lower Lena lakes, as well as the southern portion of The Brothers Wilderness. All visitor use past the Lena Lake trailhead at the junction of Forest Road 25 is prohibited. The trail and area closure will be in place until the fire no longer poses a threat to the area. The Mt. Lena Fire, located in the southeast portion of the national forest in the Hamma Hamma area, is burning in extremely steep, inaccessible terrain burning within 0.5 miles of the Lena Lake trail system. The Evans Canyon Fire is located approximately 8 miles north of Naches, Washington. Yesterday’s wind event moved smoke from other fires across Central Washington into the Evans Canyon Fire area. Temperatures are cooler today, in the mid-70s in the valleys with east winds 10-14 mph gusting to 20 mph. Yesterday’s Operations: The predicted strong winds appeared yesterday afternoon, and control lines were tested and held. There was no increase in the size of the fire as a result of Monday’s historic wind event. Several new fires started across Central Washington yesterday, and some fire crews and resources were reassigned to these new fires. Firefighters from the Evans Canyon Fire also assisted with two new local fire starts. The fire is currently estimated at 140,000 acres with 0% containment at this time Firefighters from Mt. Tolman Fire Center, Okanogan County Fire Districts 3, 6, 8, 15, Washington State Department of Natural Resources and numerous federal, state and local agencies continue to assist with fire suppression. The Evans Canyon Fire is located approximately 8 miles north of Naches, Washington. Today there is a significant weather change, with winds increasing during the day and shifting to the northeast-east. There is a Red Flag Warning until 8 PM tonight for combined strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures that could contribute to the rapid spread of any new or ongoing fires. Temperatures are forecast in the mid-80s in the valleys with winds shifting to northeast-east at 15-20 mph, gusting to 35 mph by midday. Yesterday’s Operations: Dedicated work by fire crews resulted in another significant increase in containment, with the fire now 60% contained. Fire behavior was minimal, with some remaining vegetation burning along the western side of the Yakima River. Helicopters were used to extinguish an interior hot spot on the western side of the fire.
