On the northern portion of the fire, additional crews will continue improving fire line along the perimeter in preparation for future suppression activities. Crews will actively hold and secure line with mop up actions and continue to grid for hot spots. The Northwest Incident Management Team 6, which has been managing the fire since August 11, will be handing command of the fire over to Northwest Incident Management Team 11, under Incident Commander Nathan Rabe, at the end of shift Saturday or early Sunday. August 25, 2017 - 2:54pm
http://methowvalleynews.com/2017/08/25/diamond-creek-fire-progress-slowed/ Crews work to strengthen lines south of fire By Ann McCreary Fire crews continued to strengthen fire lines south of the Diamond Creek Fire this week in case the fire should make a run south. The fire’s southward progress down the Eightmile drainage has been halted for now, Peter D’Aquanni, an information officer with Southwest Areas Incident Management Team 5, said Tuesday (Aug. 22). The Diamond Creek Fire ignited just over a month ago, and as of Tuesday had consumed more than 30,000 acres, mostly in the Pasayten Wilderness about 12 miles north of Mazama. On the fire’s southeast perimeter the fire moved out of the wilderness early last week and burned down Eightmile Road past Billy Goat Trailhead. “We feel comfortable with that peninsula of fire” that extends down the drainage, D’Aquanni said. “The southern edge of the fire is in really good shape.” Crews have tied together old roads, skid...

Today eight firefighters from the North Cascades Smoke Jumper Base are planned to join the effort. Thursday’s Accomplishments: The Norse Peak Fire (2,073 acres) saw minimal spread giving crews time to complete a contingency line along an unnamed ridge between Fife’s Peak and Hwy 410. Should the eastern edge of the fire pass Survey Creek this line will help keep it from spreading further east along the Hwy 410 corridor. Crews also continued working along Hwy 410 removing fuels and slash. The fire remains east and north of Union Creek, north of Hwy 410 and west of Survey Creek. The American Fire (201 acres) continues to back down slowly towards Hwy 410 and the American River where crews have installed hoselays and sprinklers to keep...

Jolly Mountain Fire Area Closure (Jolly Mountain Fire Wildfire)

August 25, 2017 - 9:50am
An Area Closure to public access is now in effect for National Forest lands in Upper Cle Elum valley due to the Jolly Mountain Fire. The closure will encompass all roads, trails, and campgrounds north of the Last Resort Restaurant on SR 903. This Area Closure is to provide for safety for the recreating public, local residents, and firefighters. As the weekend nears, recreationists will come to the area to visit trails and campgrounds. As the fire moves in a westerly direction, evacuations may become necessary. By closing the area roads, trails and campgrounds, fire managers will only have to notify local residents and landowners rather than numerous recreationists using the area. The Jolly Mountain Fire started on August 11, 2017 by a lightning strike. The fire is situated in steep, rugged remote terrain with numerous hazards such as dead standing tree, rolling rocks, and poor accessibility. For these reasons, the fire is not being directly suppressed. Fire managers are using an...

Actualización sobre los incendios en Norse Peak - Jueves, 24 de agosto (Norse Peak Fire Wildfire)

August 24, 2017 - 11:07am

Bridge Creek Fire Daily Update, 24 AUG 17 (Bridge Creek Fire Wildfire)

August 24, 2017 - 8:32am
Today, fire crews will actively continue to mop up established fire line along the southern, eastern and northern flanks of the fire, securing a thick black line in anticipation of an incoming weather event. Fire behavior specialists have asked firefighters to be cautious where anticipated winds may become aligned with topography and cause potential fire runs in unburned fuel. Other hazards on the fire have included dead snags, fire weakened green trees, steep topography, limited escape routes, rolling rocks and debris, ash pits and unburned fuels. Crews have worked to mitigate, minimize and avoid hazards. Today, felling crews will work to remove snags from the fire line. Wednesday, firefighters conducted small burnout operations to secure some unburned fuels near the eastern and northern perimeters of the fire line. Crews suppressed small spot fires that blew across the northern perimeter late in the day. A previous 10-acre spot fire that started across the eastern boundary of the...

Aug. 24, 2017 9:00am Norse Peak Fire Update (Norse Peak Fire Wildfire)

August 24, 2017 - 8:31am
Norse Peak Fires Update. Thursday, August 24, 2017 - 9:00 a.m. Afternoon cloud cover and high relative humidity, supplemented with water dropped by helicopters, kept growth of the Norse Peak Fire (2,040 acres), American Fire (193 acres) and three nearby fires (Union Creek – 366: 156 acres; fire 367: 52 acres; and fire 351: 4 acres) to a minimum yesterday. The fires are moving slowly across the landscape, creeping and backing, burning accumulations of fuels, and occasionally burning groups of trees or running upslope. This can have desirable ecological effects in Wilderness Areas, but the fires are being kept away from developed sites and river habitats. Wednesday Accomplishments: Crews continued removing fuels and slash from containment lines extending from Hells Crossing, along the north side of Hwy 410 and trail 999 to Morse Creek, and up Morse Creek towards Bear Gap. This is intended to prevent south and westward movement of the Norse Peak Fire, which remains east and...

Location: Cle Elum Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee NF, 11 miles northwest of Cle Elum, WA Start Date: August 11, 2017 Cause: Lightning Size: 1735 Acres Percent Contained: 0% Vegetation: Timber between rock stringers and ridge tops Resources Assigned: 323 personnel Incident Commander: Alan Sinclair with the Southwest Area Type 2 Incident Management Team 3 Summary: As a weak cold front moved over the area, drier air and increased northwest winds caused the fire to become more active yesterday. Most acreage increase was on the north and south flanks. To the north, it moved into the head of Salmon La Sac Creek and South Fork Paris Creek. On the south side, winds pushed the fire move toward Elbow Peak. Today with cooler temperatures and continued dry air, the fire is expected to not be as active as yesterday as it moves into areas of less dense fuels. Night operations will be used to provide fire behavior information and monitor fire effects. The...
