August 11 Update 11 a.m. (Bull Complex (formerly Janus Complex) Wildfire)

Firefighters have completed line construction in the high priority areas.  These areas are where the Janus and Kola Fires are predicted to move towards the control line first.The Round Lake and Ogre Fires are in patrol status and have been contained since August 7. The photo above shows the Cascade Type 2 Initial Attack Crew constructing handline. Like many firefighters out on fires this summer, many of these crew members have left their trail, fisheries or engineering jobs to support the wildfire efforts. This crew is made up of employees from National Parks and National Forests in Washington state.  Wednesday temperatures on the fire are forecasted to be 90-94F with relative humidity in the 22-26%.  Nighttime humidity forecasted to be around 45%. Winds will be primarily out of the northwest.  Ridgetop wind speed 1-4 mph, becoming 5-9 mph with gusts to 17.  Increased fire behavior is expected

 Active suppression and burn out operations on Poole Creek CANYONVILLE, Ore.—Firefighters are engaged on two fronts on Poole Creek. First, actively suppressing fire growth on the southeast flank of the fire and anywhere hot spots are found beyond control lines. Second, conducting strategic burn outs to strengthen fire lines. Overall containment on the Complex stands at 23 percent. The recent increase in fire size is all from Poole Creek, which has burned over 3,000 acres.  This is the natural progression of the fire as it moves north down two canyons. Active burning with runs up to the ridgetops has challenged firefighters to catch and corral large hot spots. Last night, firefighters conducted three successful burn outs to secure ridgetop control lines. Today, they’ll keep working to contain fires they located earlier on a flank of the east ridge. Black Butte Fire Statistics Total Acres: 14,521 Acres Containment: 5% Personnel: 559 Date of Ignition: 08/03/2021 Cause of Fires: Lightning/Natural Structures Threatened: 12 Injuries: 0 Aircraft: 4 Dozers: 6 Engines: 23 Black Butte Fire information: Good progress is being made along the northeast section of the fire. Crews will hold and mop-up to secure the fire’s edge, showing containment along dozer lines. Along the western edge, firefighters and heavy equipment will prep primary line off the 16 and 1635 roads, taking advantage of past fuel treatment and more favorable topography. Middle Fork Complex and Knoll Fire Daily Update 8/11/2021 (Middle Fork Complex Wildfire)

Kwis Fire: Fire growth is generally at the southern and western perimeter in the steep slopes of the Salmon Creek drainage. Firefighters are working to secure the line directly at the fire’s edge, using strategic burnout to add depth and strengthen fire lines while also using dozers and hand crews to establish indirect fire lines to the southwest of the fire. Containment lines on most of the western, northern, and eastern side are identified or in place. Last night crews installed hose lines to assist with containment efforts and night operations for the Kwis Fire are ongoing. Smoke and poor visibility continue to limit the use of aircraft until later in the day. An air quality advisory is in effect through Friday afternoon for eastern Lane County and Southeast Linn County. Air quality over the next several days will reach Unhealthy levels at times through Friday. Smoke Discussion Today we will see higher localized smoke impacts for communities around Oakridge, Cascara/Lowell, and McKenzie Bridge due to close proximity to active wildfires. Oakridge will see Unhealthy air quality with periods of Very Unhealthy until mid-afternoon. In the late afternoon and evening favorable winds will begin to cycle smoke out of Oakridge providing some relief. From La Pine north to Bend, air quality will be Good to Moderate most of the day with potential periods of USG in the afternoon hours. GLIDE, Ore. – Ground resources are putting the final touches on primary, alternate and contingency lines today in preparation for ignition operations Thursday, on both the Rough Patch Complex and Jack Fire.   “With the uptick in fire weather, it’s likely we will need to take action to secure portions of our containment lines,” said John Spencer, operations section chief for Northwest 13 Incident Management Team. “We will meet the fire where it pushes us with ignition operations if needed.”   Umpqua National Forest’s Wolf Creek Hotshots and other local resources will assist with firing operations. Officials issued an emergency area closure for the Knoll Fire on the Willamette National Forest. The lightening caused 375-acre Knoll Fire is approximately seven miles northeast of McKenzie Bridge, Ore. Marine Board Issues Temporary Rule to Close Portion of McKenzie River (Knoll Fire Wildfire)

The Oregon State Marine Board issued a temporary closure on a portion of the McKenzie River to recreational boating due to the Knoll Fire reaching the riverbank and burned, fallen trees entering the river.  The closure is from Trail Bridge Reservoir Dam (River Mile 81.9) downstream to the Frissel Boat Ramp (River Mile 76.1). This restriction is in place through August 20, 2021, or until this temporary rule is lifted. The U.S. Forest Service is currently leading efforts to suppress fires in the area affected by this temporary rule. The fire suppression crew operations pose a significant danger to any boaters on the river. Lane County has issued a Level 1 evacuation for nearby residents. Structural firefighters add to the forces helping at the 2,612-acre Poole Creek FireCANYONVILLE, Ore.— The Oregon Office of the State Fire Marshal has sent structural firefighters and equipment to protect residences and other buildings near the Poole Creek Fire if needed. The 27 firefighters from Polk and Yamhill counties arrived this evening with eight fire engines, two water tenders and two command vehicles. Tomorrow they’ll begin assessing structures along Ferguson Lane and Moore Ranch Road. If needed, they will improve defensible space around homes and outbuildings.  The Poole Creek Fire remains firefighters’ top priority. Crews are working to complete and strengthen control lines on the fire’s east and west flanks. A mobile retardant base placed on the south bank of the South Umpqua River is making it more convenient for helicopters to drop retardant along control lines to cool hot spots.  The Oregon State Marine Board filed a Temporary Administrative Order with the Oregon Secretary of State to: Amend OAR 250-020-0221   Effective: 08/10/2021 through 08/20/2021.   Filing Caption: Temporary boating closure on a portion of the McKenzie River.   Need for Rule: Efforts are currently underway to suppress fires in the area affected by this temporary rule. The fire suppression crews have indicated that fires are burning down to the river's edge which is creating perilous conditions for people on the water.
