   Middle Fork Complex & Knoll Fire Update – Sunday, August 15, 2021 – 9:00 am Kwis Fire: Sprinkler systems were installed to strengthen containment lines on elevated terrain and in areas not adjacent to road systems. Today will be a continuation of mop up and patrols with heavy equipment working on alternate containment lines. As operations are completed, resources are re-positioned to where they will be most effectively utilized on the complex. Some will be shifted to other locations associated with the Kwis Fire, and others will be re-located to aid in suppression efforts on the Gales or Ninemile Fires. Kwis Fire Structure Protection: Structural triage has been completed in Oakridge, Oakridge area Level 2 Evacuation Zone and the Level 3 Evacuation Zone west of the Gales Fire. Firefighter Risk Assessment Placards were posted, increasing fire suppression safety for homeowners. Bull Complex Fire Update  August 15, 2021 Fire Information Line: 503-668-1437 For Immediate Release   Overview: The Bull Complex continues to receive much needed resources to actively meet full suppression objectives of the incident. Moderate growth continues with the Janus, Ridge, and Kola Fires as they burn in the Bull of the Woods Wilderness.   Current Situation: Infra-red mapping detected moderate growth of the Janus, Ridge, and Kola Fires. Fire managers utilize infra-red (IR) sensing technology to accurately map wildfire activity and growth. Mapping showed two of the fires, the Janus and Ridge Fires, have merged. Moving forward we will be updating to four fires, the Janus, Kola, Round Lake, and Ogre Creek Fires.   Crews are wrapping up work to the south and southeast of the Janus and Kola Fires cutting the vegetation along Forest Road 6370. Crews Mop-up the Poole Creek FireCANYONVILLE, Ore.— The Poole Creek Fire has a completed control line around it, crews will continue with mop-up today. Mopping up is very detailed, digging out burning roots and using water to remove all remaining heat. Containment has climbed to 34%.At this stage in the fire residents and visitors can expect to see a red glow at night, especially within the interior of the fire. Smoke and occasional flare ups may still be visible. Firefighters and engines will continue to patrol the fire 24/7 until it is no longer required. Although mopping up is now the main focus, crews have a number of other tasks to complete. They will also be locating, identifying and mitigating hazard trees. Also referred to as snags, these pose a serious hazard to firefighters. Snags are standing dead trees that are prone to unexpectedly falling.   Special Statement A Smoke Air Quality Advisory remains in effect for eastern Lane County. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels due to smoke at times through noon PDT Monday. Fire The Middle Fork Complex is comprised of the Kwis, Gales, and Ninemile fires. The Incident Management Team is also managing the Knoll fire. Total acres burned on Middle Fork Complex is 8,846 and is currently 2% contained. The Knoll fire remains at 544 acres and 30% contained. Weather Discussion Today’s weather forecast will be favorable for continued clearing of accumulated smoke. Increased ventilation and stronger afternoon winds will support clearing air for most of the forecast area. Our heaviest smoke impacts will be in the midday hours as the inversion breaks and smoke mixes to the surface. GLIDE, Ore. – Fire crews made headway bolstering the containment lines on the Chaos Fire, while keeping it from moving farther west or south.  Work will continue today on mopping up along containment lines, conducting direct attack where feasible, and indirect attack where appropriate based on weather, fuels, and topography. Fox Complex Evening Update for August 14 (Fox Complex Wildfire)

Lakeview, OR  –  Fire behavior was active today on the Patton Meadow Fire as temperatures climbed over 100 degrees.  Crews are working to hold the west side of the fire at Patton Meadow Road.  There was a small spot fire that crossed Patton Meadow Road, but crews we able to stop it from significant growth.  Overnight, crews will strengthen lines on the west and south side of the fire in preparation for the shift to a NE wind overnight. The spot fire that crossed over Hwy 140 to the south last night is fully lined and in mop up. Crews were able to hold the Willow Valley Fire for another day of zero growth. No structures are threatened on the Willow Valley Fire. There is a planned infrared flight over both fires tonight. This will give a more accurate measurement of acres and containment in the morning. OSFM welcomed two more task forces from Washington State this evening. This brings the total number of task forces to 9, which equals approximately 120 structural firefighters...

Fox Complex Update for August 14 (Fox Complex Wildfire)

Lakeview, OR  –  The Fox Complex, which includes the Patton Meadow and Willow Valley fires, is now under the unified command of Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team 3 and Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Blue Team.   The arrival of the two teams brings in additional overhead capacity and firefighting resources. The teams are setting up their incident command post at the Lake County Fairgrounds and working on arrangements for a forward operating base for crews and amenities to support them. The Patton Meadow Fire is burning on the Fremont-Winema National Forest and private lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry about 10 miles west of Lakeview. Fire behavior picked up overnight as winds out of the north pushed the fire over and to the south of Highway 140 and west of the 383 road.  Firefighters Succeed in Fully Lining Poole Creek Fire CANYONVILLE, Ore.— Yesterday, fire crews completed control lines all around the perimeter of the Poole Creek Fire. Last night, crews secured the control lines by burning a buffer of black against the advancing natural fire. Firefighters reported no hot spots or fires beyond the control lines resulting from the strategic firing operations. Today, firefighters will work to keep the fire within the control lines and deepen mop up toward the fire’s interior. Holding crews will be stationed along the fire control lines to put out any fires beyond the lines. Other crews will be mopping up—mop up is a methodical process of putting the fire completely out.
