Cedar Creek Fire UpdateAugust 11, 2022 - 8:00 a.m. Acreage: 3,861 Containment: 0% Highlights: Crews used Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), also known as “drones,” equipped with infrared detection technology on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to look for heat signatures from new lightning caused fire starts. No other new fires were detected, and crews were able to contain all five fires that started from the recent thunderstorms. The Interagency Hotshot Crews that contained the new starts have now returned to scouting for opportunities to connect Black Creek Road (Forest Road 2421) to Waldo Lake. Scouting for a strategic place to construct this line will prevent the fire from moving south. Cedar Creek Fire Update, August 10 (Cedar Creek Fire Wildfire)
Acreage: 3,772Containment: 0% Highlights: Thunderstorms passed over the fire area yesterday and crews assigned to the Cedar Creek Fire were able to assist in providing a quick response to five new lightning caused fires east of the main fire. The Union Interagency Hotshot Crew (IHC) had been engaged in scouting for opportunities to construct fireline from East Black Creek Road (Forest Road 2421) through the Waldo Lake Wilderness to tie into the lake before they were diverted to a new fire. The Devils Staircase Wildland Fire Module that had been working north of the fire area near the lake were able to quickly respond to a new lightning start in that area. Keeping these new fire starts small is a priority for the Willamette National Forest. Most firefighters assigned to the incident were able to remain engaged in preparing roads as containment features.Operations: Operations to prepare Black Creek Road as a containment line will continue today. Beech Creek Fire Update – August 9, 2022 JOHN DAY, PRAIRIE CITY, and HINES, OR – (Tuesday, August 9, 2022) This will be the final posted update unless a significant change in fire behavior occurs. Steady progress continues on the Beech Creek Fire, which now sits at 71% containment and remains at 155 acres. Hot and dry conditions are anticipated through the rest of the week. There is potential for thunderstorms with strong outflow winds in the afternoon.This evening at 6:00 p.m. the High Desert Type 3 IMT will transition command of the fire back to the Malheur National Forest, Blue Mountain Ranger District. Resources remaining on the fire will continue mop up efforts south of Hwy 395 with the intent to target heat within 100 feet interior of containment lines. The fire area north of the highway, with a secured perimeter of 300 feet interior, will continue to have frequent patrols.The Oregon Department of Transportation will reopen Hwy 395 to normal traffic flow by 8:00 p.m....

Acreage: 3,234 (acreage remained the same because there was no Infrared detection flight overnight)Containment: 0% Highlights: Although overall fire behavior was moderate with slightly cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity yesterday, the fire was more active on the southeastern perimeter near Koch Mountain Ridge and the northwest flanks near Spirit Lake. Additional crews arriving to the incident worked alongside heavy equipment and continued work to remove thick vegetation along Black Creek Road (Forest Road 2421) to prepare it as a containment line for the southern fire’s edge. Operations: Today, the Pike Interagency Hotshot Crew and the Devils Staircase Wildland Fire Module will be scouting for containment opportunities in the Waldo Lake Wilderness.
