Interstate 84 closed due to Eagle Creek Fire; Evacuations under way for 3 communities Due to extreme fire behavior on the Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge, all lanes of Interstate 84 are closed from Troutdale (Exit 17) to 2 miles west of Hood River (MP 62). The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has issued Level 3 (Go!) evacuations for the communities of Dodson and Warrendale. The communities of Latourell and Bridal Veil are in Level 1 (Get Ready) evacuation status. East Corbett is under a Level 2 (Be Set) evacuation and the rest of Corbett is under Level 1 (Be Ready) evacuation. Alternate Routes to Crater Lake (Umpqua North Complex Wildfire)
Best Alternate Routes for Traveling to Crater Lake From Interstate 5 traveling north via Northern California: Take exit 40 at Gold Hill and follow Route 234 east to the village of “Trail”. At Trail, follow Route 62, following signs to Crater Lake. From Interstate 5 traveling south via Roseburg and Eugene, OR: Take exit 99 at Canyonville and follow Route 227 south to the village of “Trail”. At Trail, take Route 62, following signs to Crater Lake. From Route 138 at the Closure: Follow 138 back west to Roseburg, then take Interstate 5 south to exit 99 and follow the directions above. Do not follow Routes 78 east or 23 north in an attempt to connect to roads north of Crater Lake, unless you are extremely familiar with the Forest. Chetco Bar Fire Evacuation Level 1 and 3 Josephine County 09/04/17 12pm (Chetco Bar Fire Wildfire)
Under the recommendation of the Chetco Bar Fire Incident Commander with concurrence of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois Valley Fire District, a Level 3 evacuation order has been issued for all residents on Illinois River Road within the US Forest Service Boundaries. Eagle Creek Fire - Morning Update, September 4, 2017 (Eagle Creek Fire Wildfire)
Eagle Creek Fire was less active overnight than the previous night and is now an estimated 3200 acres. It is holding at the same position as last night, roughly a quarter mile from the town of Cascade Locks. Structure protection remains in place. Evacuation levels remain the same as yesterday: Level 3 Evacuations: 283 structures, including 15 businesses, near Cascade Locks. Level 2 Evacuations: 118 structures, including 10 businesses. Level 1 Evacuations: 200 structures, including 4 businesses. The fire moved closer to Eagle Creek Trailhead within the Eagle Creek drainage and over Buck Point, towards the historic Eagle Creek Campground. Chetco Bar Fire Air Quality Outlook (Chetco Bar Fire Wildfire)
Smoke: Very heavy smoke impacts continue to be seen in local communities surrounding the Chetco Bar Fire, including Brookings, Agness, Grants Pass and Cave Junction. Northerly winds will pick up today and help mix in clearer air in areas North of the fire such as Gold Beach and Agness. Communities to the South, East and West are expected to see some improvement, but likely remain in the Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy range. Expect continued reduced visibility along Highways 101, 199 and other local roadways again. Note that smoke from other fires will be transported over the area contributing to poor air quality. The Horse Prairie Fire, six miles west of Riddle, has close to 1,000 personnel working on the fire. At last report, the fire is estimated at 12,813 acres and 20 percent contained. A Heat Advisory is in effect for Douglas County. A ridge of high pressure is expected to remain over the state on Monday, as hot temperatures continue over the holiday weekend. This will keep smoke trapped in the valley for the third consecutive day.
