Miller Complex Fire Update Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team - Todd Pechota, Incident Commander Information Center: 541-899-5302 Hours of operation: 7 am – 9 pm Email: MillerComplex2017@gmail.com September 9, 2017 Current Situation: Favorable weather conditions combined with good progress made on containment lines prompted officials to lift evacuation notices within the Miller Complex on 9/8/17. The Joe Bar area, located in California near the north edge of the Abney Fire, will remain under an evacuation warning. Containment lines are being created and held with great success throughout the complex. Higher humidity, lower temperatures and moisture reduced fire behavior assisted in securing containment lines on the Creedence, Bigelow and Burnt Peak fires. Crews on the Abney fire will continue to build, improve and secure containment lines to the east, north and northwest of the Abney fire. Ayer, fue el primer dia con tendencias seca y de calientamiento en el are del Incendio de Chetco East Zone (Zona Este) y continuandose hasta el dia Lunes. La precipitacion del dia Jueves redujo la actividad del Incendio dando una Buena oportunidad para que el batallon continuara haciendo progresos en las lineas de contruccion del Incendio. Sin embargo, materiales de combustion solamente fueron humedecidos de una manera temporal, los cuales ya empezaron a secarse. Un cuarto incendio que fue iniciado por relampagos el dia Jueves, fue controlado por los bomberos del Distrito de Wild Ranger. Informe para Incendio Eagle Creek, sabado 9 de sept (Eagle Creek Fire Wildfire)
Bomberos realizaron una operación de quema cerca de Cascade Locks para proteger residencias privadas y edificios comerciales que estaban en peligro. Continuaron trabajando en la interestatal 84 y la autopista 30 usando equipo pesado para fortalecer la línea y proteger los edificios, también evitando áreas sensitivos como los criaderos de peces. Helicópteros estaban canalizando agua del rio Columbia para apoyar los bomberos trabajando al sur de la interestatal 84. Community Meeting Announcement (Horse Prairie Wildfire)
Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 1 will host a Public Meeting on Tuesday, September 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the Riddle Community Center. 123 Parkside St, Riddle, OR 97469Members of Douglas Forest Protective Association, the Incident Management Team, Local and County Responders, and a Douglas County Commissioner will be on hand to give an operational summary of the fire, as well as to answer any questions about this incident or preparedness for the future.

HORSE PRAIRIE FIRE September 9, 2017 9:00 a.m. Riddle, Oregon – Today, Saturday September 9th a change in management of the fire will occur at 12:00 noon when Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team 1 assumes control of the fire from ODF IMT 3. A transition of leadership will occur at the same time when Joe Hessel replaces Link Smith as Incident Commander. The reason for the transition is to allow the current team some time for rest and recovery before another possible assignment. Today outgoing Incident Commander Smith commented on the work of the firefighters who stopped the growth of the Horse Prairie Fire during some very challenging weather conditions “very nicely done folks”. Total acreage for the fire today sits at 24,025 acres with 60 percent containment. Resources on scene include 59 personnel from the US Forest Service, the BLM, the Oregon Department of Forestry and the Oregon Department of Transportation. Firefighters today will continue repairing and rehabilitating fire line along the northwestern edge of the fire area. Crews also continue monitoring the perimeter as it pushes into the lava flows along Highway 242 ensuring that all hot spots are monitored until cold. The majority of heat from this fire remains in the southwestern edge of the fire perimeter as it moves slowly south in the Pole Creek burn and west into rock. Eagle Creek Fire Morning Update 9/9/17 (Eagle Creek Fire Wildfire)
Summary: Winds shifted Friday, blowing predominantly upriver out of the west and increasing fire activity to the east. One new Level 1 (Ready) and one new Level 2 (Set) Evacuation Notices were issued by the Hood River Sheriff’s Department for portions of Hood River County on Friday afternoon. See the Hood River County Sheriff’s web site for current information. Firefighters performed a strategic burnout near Cascade Locks to protected endangered residential and commercial structures. They continued to work along Interstate 84 and Hwy 30 using heavy equipment to strengthen firelines and protect structures, avoiding sensitive areas like fish hatcheries. Helicopters were dipping water out of the Columbia River to assist firefighters working south of the Interstate. Helicopters also provided assistance to crews working to contain the Archer Fire in Washington. Chetco East Zone Fire Update. Saturday, September 9, 2017 9:00 a.m. Friday was the first day of a drying and warming trend over the Chetco East Zone Fire area that will continue through Monday. Thursday’s wetting rain reduced fire activity providing a good opportunity for crews to continue making progress on fire line construction. However, fuels were only temporarily dampened and are already beginning to dry out. A fourth new fire, ignited by lightning Thursday, came to life and was controlled by Wild Rivers Ranger District firefighters. Dean Warner, Fire Behavior Analyst with Northwest Incident Management Team #13, observed that roads are already drying out and vehicles are kicking up dust again.
