Chetco East Zone Fire Update. Tuesday, September 12, 2017 9:00 a.m. The Chetco East Zone Fire management team has activated a new public fire information line (541-597-8525) dedicated to sharing information about activities on the Josephine County side of the fire. On Monday, the most significant fire activity on the Chetco Bar Fire was on the southern perimeter. Retardant drops slowed the fire’s spread. In the Chetco East Zone Fire area, a new fire was reported near West Fork Indigo Creek, approximately 10 miles north of the main fire. Fire 784, the “Indigo Fire,” is currently 100 acres and is burning in brush and light timber within the Biscuit Fire burn scar. Smoke jumpers, rappellers, and retardant were unable to be used due to steep terrain. Helicopters made water drops on this fire for approximately 4 hours until dark. NEW Phone Numbers! In order to provide more direct access to fire information and answer fire-related questions, the Chetco Bar Fire Information staffs have updated our telephone lines. The East Zone (Josephine County) is now using an East Zone Information phone: (541) 597-8525. It rings at the Lake Selmac fire camp. The West Zone (Curry County) is now using a West Zone Information phone: (619)-894-9111. It rings in Brookings. The original Fire Information Call Center phone number (541) 469-1177 is being forwarded to the West Zone Incident Command Post in Brookings (619) 894-9111. People who have older hand outs or other documents will still reach a PIO when they call the original Fire Information Call Center phone number. Eagle Creek Fire Evening Update 9/11/17 (Eagle Creek Fire Wildfire)
Two community meetings are being held tonight, Monday, September 11: 6 p.m. at the Edgefield Amphitheater, 2126 Halsey Street, in Troutdale and 7:00 p.m. at the Marine Park Pavilion in Cascade Locks Summary: Very little heat has been observed in the spot fires on the west end of the fire. Firefighters concentrated their efforts on the I-84 corridor today, burning out small pockets of fuel east toward Cascade Locks. These controlled burns sent up visible smoke, but the fire is not creating any new threats. South of Cascade Locks, crews secured and mopped-up around structures and other infrastructure. Containment line has been cleared along the powerline corridor to Shell Rock Mountain. Contingency lines have been established from Mitchell Point southwest to Wahtam Lake using a series of roads, trails, and dozer line. Update Sept. 11-14 (Milli Fire Wildfire)
The Milli Fire acreage remains the same with 60% containment. Fire activity remains minimal with the majority of the activity from interior pockets of heat that will continue to produce smoke until a season ending event completely extinguishes this fire. Because of this, we will not produce another fire update until Friday, September 15. Firefighters will continue to rehabilitate fire line along the northwestern edge of the fire area. Work continues in conjunction with Oregon Department of Transportation and the Sisters Ranger District to identify and remove hazard trees along Highway 242 and continue repairing and rehabilitating culverts, fire lines and burned areas along the highway. Acreage on this fire could grow slowly in the coming week while containment remains at 60%. Northwest Interagency Incident Management Team 9, Brian Goff, incident commander, took over management of the Miller Complex fires at 6 am, Sept. 11, 2017, following the Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team. The team will host two community meetings this week to brief the public on the progress of the Miller Complex. The west side community meeting will be held Tuesday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Williams Elementary School located at 20691 Williams Hwy, Williams, OR 97544. The eastside community meeting will be held Wednesday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate Valley Fire Station #9 1095 Upper Applegate Road Jacksonville, OR 97530.

Jones Fire Update: September 11, 2017 (Jones Fire Wildfire)
A public meeting has been scheduled for September 13, 2017 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Lowell Rural Fire District Fire Station located at 389 North Pioneer St., Lowell, OR 97452. This will be an opportunity for the public to hear the latest fire information and ask questions about the Jones Fire. The existing Jones Fire Base Camp, located in the Lowell Sate Park, will be moving beginning today. The new Base Camp location will be Dexter State Recreation Site, including the South Bank Fishing Area. The staffed closure point will be at the existing entrance to the Dexter State Recreation Site off of State Highway 58. Actions yesterday included utilizing water drops from a helicopter to cool hot spots. Ochoco National Forest suppressing wilderness fire (Desolation Fire Wildfire)
PRINEVILLE, Ore. – Smoke may be visible over the Ochocos from Prineville and Highway 26 due to the Desolation fire, a new start within Mill Creek Wilderness about 20 miles northeast of town. First reported just before noon on Saturday, September 9, the fire is estimated at 25 acres and burning near the intersection of the East Fork of Mill Creek and Desolation Canyon. The fire is burning in patches of dead and live timber on steep slopes just below Whistler Point. Aircraft dumped water on the fire yesterday to check its growth and today crews are flying the fire to get a better size estimate. No firefighters have been sent in on the ground yet due to safety concerns over the abundance of snags, but the Forest is suppressing the fire when and where it’s possible to do so safely. RIDDLE, Ore. – Mop up continues on the Horse Prairie Fire about 15 miles west of Canyonville in Douglas County. The fire is now reported as 50 percent contained and remains at 16,436 acres. The fire started on August 26th, on lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association. A community meeting about the Horse Prairie Fire has been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be in the Riddle Community Hall, 123 Parkside Street in Riddle. Today, hand crews continue to put out hot spots in the areas that burned last on the fire’s southern and southeast perimeter. Hoselays were installed around 100 percent of the Horse Prairie Fire. Where water is no longer needed, those hoses are being removed, cleaned and shipped out for use on other fires. Smoke: Smoke production is expected to increase today with moderate fire behavior. Winds from the north and northeast will push smoke toward coastal areas including Gold Beach, Brookings and further south into northern California. Highway 101 may see reduced visibility in some areas. Periods of Unhealthy air may be experienced in coastal towns by this afternoon /evening. Inland, in the Cave Junction, Grants Pass, Medford and other Rogue Valley communities, moderate conditions this morning are expected to worsen through the day, possibly reaching periods of unhealthy. Current Information:The public is invited to an Open House tonight, Monday, Sept. 11 in Roseburg from 5-7 p.m. at the Umpqua National Forest office, 2900 NW Stewart Parkway. There will be stations covering the Umpqua North Complex, Falcon Complex, and Horse Prairie Fires. Representatives from these fires, Douglas County Commissioners' office, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Pacific Power, Douglas Public Health Network, DFPA, and the Forest Service will be on hand. The soldiers of US Army Task Force Spearhead, from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, completed their training on Saturday and went to work on the fire line Sunday. They were assigned to the Devil, Brokentooth and Ragged Ridge Fires, improving containment lies and creating hose lays to put water directly on the fire.
