8/2/18 Klondike Fire Update (Klondike Fire Wildfire)
Weather and Fire Behavior: Today will be mostly sunny, with smoky conditions and gradual cooling continuing. Northwest winds will lead to some west to east clearing along the western Klondike perimeter this afternoon. There is potential for active to very active fire behavior when this clearing occurs. On the Klondike Fire, continued growth of up to one half mile is possible in active areas. Yesterday’s Activities: Crews improved indirect containment lines along the east side on Forest Roads 25 and 2512 and old Biscuit dozer lines north of the fire. These indirect control lines were selected for use because they have the highest probability of successfully stopping further spread of the fire in the steep and rugged terrain and providing for public and firefighter safety. Firefighters also continued to look for opportunities to implement direct control lines closer to the fire that could reduce the overall fire’s footprint. Structure protection in Briggs Valley to the north...
