9/4 Natchez Fire Update (Natchez Fire Wildfire)

September 4, 2018 - 9:54am
9/4 Natchez Fire Update Happy Camp, CA – The off shore flow wind pattern will be weaker today reducing winds on the ridge tops to 4-8 mph. Temperatures are expected to be 5-10 degrees hotter than normal, with high 80’s in the valleys and mid to upper 70’s near the ridges. On the southwest flank, active fire will continue with the potential for single-tree and group torching. The extended outlook calls for moderating weather conditions. Yesterday’s windy, hot and dry conditions caused the fire to become active requiring air resources to work to delay the fire from spreading west towards the containment lines. Several small spot fires were detected in rocky and sparse vegetation on the west side of Polar Bear Mountain. Helicopter bucket drops were effective on the spot fires and kept them in check. Helicopters applied retardant from Polar Bear Mountain south towards El Capitan, extending and strengthening the containment line. Good progress was made on...

September 4, 2018 Fire Update for Klondike Fire (Klondike Fire Wildfire)

September 4, 2018 - 6:00am
Overview Klondike Fire West Zone A community meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 5 beginning at 5:00 P.M. at the Agness Community Library. The areas with the most fire growth occurred at the confluence of the East and West Forks of Indigo Creek, along Silver Creek, and to the southwest into the Chetco Bar Fire burn area. Some growth occurred on the east perimeter northeast of Chinaman Hat Peak. Reduced visibility due to smoke prevented air tanker flights, so helicopter water and gel drops were used exclusively. Crews continued fuel reduction operations on contingency lines and worked on structure protection in and around Agness. Conditions favorable for high fire activity will persist on Tuesday. Firefighters will continue reducing fuel availability, treating the contingency line on the ridge on the west side of Horse Sign Creek, and treating the ridge west of Fish Hook Creek. No tactical firing operations are planned for Tuesday but may be required if fire activity...

Happy Labor Day to the people of Lake County! Northwest Incident Management Team 6 would like to thank the people of Lake County, from Silver Lake to Lakeview, for their cooperation, collaboration, and understanding during our tenure on the Watson Creek Fire. Our firefighters felt welcomed and appreciated by this community, especially the City of Paisley, as we added more than 1000 people to its population for the last two weeks. Your friendliness and helpfulness is much appreciated. We know that having so many of us suddenly descend upon a town can tax the local citizens and resources such as water supplies. Thank you all for working with us and serving us so well. The Watson Creek Fire is 95% contained. Final, full containment will be achieved by the incoming incident management team, with Leland Hunter serving as Incident Commander. The transition meeting will occur at 10:00 a.m. today, with incoming fire overhead shadowing their outgoing counterparts throughout the...

Watson Creek Fire Daily Update 9-2-18 (Watson Creek Fire Wildfire)

September 2, 2018 - 3:53pm
As the fire grows closer to full containment, the number of fire crews, engines, and equipment will continue to decrease. The incoming team will start with approximately 100 personnel plus dozers, tenders, and engines. The most active fire behavior likely to occur will be within interior islands of unburned fuel. As the easterly flow continues today, the weather will be warmer and drier. Last night was the driest in more than seven days. Daytime temperatures should reach the lower 70s to lower 80s with relative humidity in the low teens. Winds will be breezy in the afternoon up to 15 mph. As of Saturday afternoon the evacuation notices in all areas were lifted except for the Lakeview Estates neighborhood which has been...

Watson Creek Fire Update 9-1-18 (Watson Creek Fire Wildfire)

September 2, 2018 - 3:22pm
Friday’s early morning infrared imagery showed a hot spot outside of fire lines near Mill Creek. “There was heat in the ground that hadn’t shown up yet as smoke or flame,” said Vince Grace, field operations chief for Team 6. “Our day crew was able to find it and dig it out. It was a good catch.” Dangerous, damaged trees that are near roads and recreation areas or near crews working on mop-up are being cut and left in place where possible. Chipping of woody debris left along roadsides continues. Fire lines are being water-barred to prevent erosion. Structures that have been covered in protective wrap are being unwrapped. Sprinklers, hoses, and pumps are being removed. Fire officials have initiated use of low-level aerial infrared imagery of areas close to fire lines to detect hot spots. Today, warmer and drier conditions are expected as a result of east winds of 5-10 mph with gusts of 15 to 20. The unburned areas within the fire perimeter will likely exhibit...

September 2, 2018 - 9:43am
Klondike Fire West ZoneSouthern Area Red TeamMike Dueitt, Incident Commander The West Zone of the Klondike Fire was more active on Saturday, with the highest growth near Horse Sign Butte. Aircraft retardant gel and water drops successfully slowed the westward fire spread and kept the fire south of Indigo Creek. Firefighters reinforced existing contingency lines and looked for safe, interior access to the fire line. Additional check lines were completed in preparation for potential future tactical firing operations. These lines will be used for controlling the rate of spread when firing. More water supply units and mobile retardant tanks were placed in strategic locations along contingency lines. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Sunday night and will remain in place until Monday morning. This indicates critical fire weather thresholds including low humidity, high winds, and hotter temperatures. Because of these changing conditions, fire behavior is expected to increase on Sunday....
