Echo Mountain Complex Daily Update 9/16/2020 (Echo Mountain Complex Fire Wildfire)

September 16, 2020 - 9:00am
Lincoln City, Ore. – Rainfall totals for yesterday were not as much as firefighters were hoping to receive.  Rain gauges placed in the fire area showed that the western half of the fire received 0.13-0.18 inches of rain.  Further to the east, the rain gauges only received trace amounts of precipitation.  The lack of rain didn’t slow firefighter’s progress though.  The Echo Mountain Complex remained at 2,552 acres, but is now 40% contained.  Firefighters are working on mopping up and securing the fire.  Mopping up is the methodical process of detecting hotspots around the fire’s perimeter and removing the heat.  This is generally conducted using water, but utilizing the high relative humidity to assist is also a tactic firefighters will employ.  Fire resources will continue this process over the next few days to make sure there are no threats to the fire line. The incident meteorologist is predicting more significant rainfall over the fire area later in the week. ...

Smoke Outlook for 9/16 - 9/17 NW Oregon Willamette Valley (Riverside Fire Wildfire)

September 16, 2020 - 7:28am
Smoke Outlook for 9/16 - 9/17 _ NW Oregon Willamette Valley   Special Statement Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has extended the AIR QUALITY ADVISORY for the entire State of Oregon due to hazardous smoke conditions.   Fire Fire activity on the Riverside and Beachie Creek fires has slowed significantly, showing small pockets of heat along the fireline where crews are working to get access. Today's cooler temperatures and incoming low pressure will help firefighter efforts. Internal pockets and dense understory will continue to smolder and clean up through the week.   Smoke Today, expect to see air quality improve as this low-pressure meanders inland. The stalled low-pressure system has scoured out the lingering smoke in Tillamook, Florence, and Coos Bay. The Willamette Valley is starting to see some relief, but fires in California continue to send smoke into Oregon up the I-5 corridor. Levels of particulate matter will drop below 200 for the first time in a week. Most of...
