 WESTFIR, Ore. – Work continues strengthening and reinforcing lines through strategic ignitions around the north and northwest edges of the Gales-Ninemile Fire footprint along with other suppression activities across the Middle Fork Complex.    Fire officials are working closely with Lane County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation of an accident that resulted in the death of a firefighter on the Gales Fire yesterday. Additional information will be released by the sheriff’s office as it becomes available.       On the Kwis Fire, crews are mopping up and backhauling equipment and supplies for use elsewhere. Mop up is the process of breaking apart smoldering debris, ensuring embers are completely extinguished, or moving burned debris so it cannot roll downhill and ignite previously unburned fuels.  Firefighters mop up along the fire perimeter to ensure the fire line is cooled down enough that it cannot re-ignite.    Closures: Full text of...

Lakeview, OR- “Last night, we threw down on this fire,” said night Operations Section Chief Rob Pentzer during an energetic morning briefing today. Night crews cleared a rind of 25-50ft along the fire’s north perimeter, the hottest area on the fire where burnout operations started over the weekend and continue to consume fuels. Mop up is proceeding well, with a rind of up to 300 feet on the east, south, and west sides of the fire.“We’re in a great place. I’m very pleased with how things turned out after burnout operations two nights ago,” said day shift Operations Section Chief Eric Perkins.  Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2, and Delancy Fires Daily Update August 24, 2021   Winthrop, WA – The Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2, and Delancy fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and public and private lands within Okanogan County.   Fire Information Line: (509) 557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily)   Cedar Creek Fire: The fire is 55,137 acres and is 75% contained. A crew was flown by helicopter into the western side of the fire yesterday and they completed line construction in the Little Wolf Creek area with the assistance of helicopter water drops to cool the edge of the fire. The crew was flown out, and air support will be available today to cool hot areas of fuel near the fire’s edge if needed. The entire fire area will be on patrol status today.  Fire Update for Tuesday, August 24, 2021                                       Fire Information:  503-867-7924 Overall Objective:  The Rough Patch Complex and Jack Fire are being managed under a full suppression strategy using containment and confinement tactics to minimize fire spread to prevent loss of valuable resources.  Leaders’ intent is to not allow the fire to progress to the west and to protect private structures throughout the fire area by using the PACE model – Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency control Lines and to keep the fires as small as possible while working toward full containment.
