WALKER CREEK AND CHICKADEE CREEK FIRES - DAILY FIRE UPDATE SEPTEMBER 6, 2021NORTHWEST INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM 12 Incident Commanders: Jeff Dimke and Bobby Shindelar The Chickadee Creek Fire is located 15 miles west of Tonasket, Washington and the Walker Creek Fire is 13 miles east/northeast of Tonasket, Washington, surrounding Lake Bonaparte. The Incident Command Post at the Omak Stampede Grounds is closed to all but essential personnel. Northwest IMT 12 will be transitioning command of both fires on 9/8 at 8 AM. Chickadee Creek Fire will transition to the local unit of the Washington DNR and Walker Creek Fire will transition to a NE Washington Type 3 IMT. Smoke on the interior of the fires will continue to be visible, particularly on the northwestern portion of the Walker Creek Fire. Westfir, OR – Many snags and smokey conditions make direct fire attack unsafe in steep terrain. Primary and secondary line on the Gales Fire is being built and strengthened as close as possible to the fire to provide for firefighter safety. The highest priority for strategically burning from constructed hand and dozer line with the most personnel is located on the 1825 Road near Nevergo Creek; crews are working night and day shifts to take advantage of current conditions. On the northeastern flank of the fire down to Delp Creek, line is being constructed along the 1846 Road starting from the prior strategic burning operations near Buzzard Creek. Firefighters are preparing for heightened fire behavior to come through on Tuesday afternoon.   On the Kwis Fire, an engine crew continues diligent work to break up and put out all remaining burning material near the fire perimeter. “Every once in a while, we find a stump hole burning,” said Field Operations Chief Ryan Sullivan.  ...

Delaying the fire's progression gives firefighters additional time needed to secure and improve containment lines. Helicopters were also used for aerial ignition, adding depth to previously burned containment lines near Slide Peak; and working in conjunction with firefighters hand lighting along the containment line from Crescent Hill to Junior Spike late in the day. Note that this Outlook is base on the 24-hour AQI, for current conditions go to "EPA's Airnow Fire and Smoke Map". Fire and Weather The Middle Fork Complex is now at 24,930 acres and is 20% contained. Today we are under high pressure, so winds will be light and there will be little clearing of the smoke. Tomorrow, we have an approaching weather disturbance that will enhance fire conditions ahead of its passing, sometime late Tuesday.
