September 3, 2017 6:00 pm Enchantment permit area and trail closures in effect Due to increased fire activity in the Stuart and Eightmile Lake drainages the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented a trail and area closure in the Enchantments Permit Area and Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The Colchuck Lake, Stuart Lake and Eightmile/Caroline Lake permit zones are CLOSED for public safety. The following trails are also closed. Eightmile-Trout Lake Trail No. 1554, Trout Creek Trail No. 1555, Jack Ridge Trail No. 1557, Jack Creek Trail No.1558, Meadow Creek Trail No. 1559, Solomon Creek Trail No. 1593, Van Epps Trail No. 1594, Blackjack Ridge Trail No. 1565, Snowwall Cradle Trail No. 1560, French Creek Trail No. 1559 starting at the Klonaqua Lake trail junction. Level 3 (Go) Relaxed to Level 2 (Be Set) For Palmer and Kinney Creeks (Miller Complex Wildfire)

Firefighters and local officials working the Miller Complex are lifting the Level 3 (Go) Evacuation Order for Kinney Creek Road (1090 Road) and Palmer Creek Road effective at 6 p.m. today. That area will return to a Level 2 (Be Set) as a continued precaution. The firefighting effort in this area unfolded as planned yesterday, as firefighters kept the slow moving fire on the ground and stopped its progression at established control lines. No homes or structures were lost or damaged. The public will continue to see firefighting traffic in the Upper Applegate Road area as mop-up work continues. No other evacuation levels are changing on the Burnt Peak Fire on the Miller Complex at this time.

Per Marion County Emergency Management Level 2 Evacuation Notice for Breitenbush Hot Springs resort area and a portion of the Willamette National Forest North of Highway 46 in the Breitenbush Drainage Salem, OR – Today Marion County Emergency Management released a Level 2 evacuation notice for the Breitenbush Hot Springs resort area and a portion of the Willamette National Forest as described in the attached map. The area includes the Humbug and Breitenbush Campgrounds, the Fox Creek and Cleator Bend Group Sites, and the Short Mountain and Bald Butte Trailheads. The notice is in response to wildfires currently burning within approximately two miles of the Breitenbush Hot Springs resort area. A Level 2 evacuation notice alerts those within the evacuation area that there is significant danger in the area, and that residents and visitors should either voluntarily relocate outside the affected area, or if choosing to remain, to be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice. Acres: 692 Containment: 0% Start Date: August 11, 2017 Cause: Lightning Location: 15 miles WSW of Leavenworth, WA An Infrared flight last night revealed the Jack Creek Fire grew to the south in the Van Epps Drainage and grew significantly east through the 2008 Jack Creek footprint. The fire spotted over Jack Ridge and is established in the Eightmile drainage, prompting immediate evacuations of campers and day hikers in the area. Expanded fire closures are being evaluated for public and firefighter safety concerns. Wilderness Rangers are currently closing and sweeping the trails in the Eightmile Lake, Caroline Lakes and Jack Creek area. Firefighters are hiking into Eightmile Lake to assess fire activity, point protection strategies and additional resource needs. North Pelican Fire Update A thermal trough has passed over the fire area. Temperatures will remain hot (93-97 degrees) in the fire area and humidity will be as low as 12 percent. Breezy east to northeast winds are possible at the ridges tonight, but not strong enough to warrant any concerns at this time. Humidity recovery will continue to today to be poor with a Haines of 5 (moderate). Current fire size remains at 1,900 acres and containment holding at 18%. Firefighters continue strengthening containment lines on the western perimeter near the fire’s edge. Crews working in the north continue to extend containment lines toward the west and in the south, they continue to utilize Lake Francis to assist in mop up efforts. Eagle Creek Fire ignites in Gorge, forces evacuations in Cascade Locks; Hikers shuttled out from Wahtum Lake area A new fire Saturday in the Eagle Creek Trail area in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area trapped more than 150 hikers and led to evacuations in Cascade Locks.The Eagle Creek Fire was reported Saturday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m. The fire grew to about 3,000 acres overnight and is now approximately 1/2 mile from Cascade Locks, Oregon. Public safety is the number one priority in the Eagle Creek Fire. For their safety, 153 hikers had to shelter in place last night near Tunnel Falls as the fire had cut off their return access. A National Guard helicopter dropped supplies to the hikers yesterday. Local search and rescue crews will be assisting in leading the hikers out today. Summary: The fire continued moving southeast into the Ashnola drainage as well as moving farther north and east into British Columbia. The fire continued to actively burn on the west side in Ptarmigan Creek. Helicopter water drops continued in the Ptarmigan Creek area to cool the fire and prevent it from moving farther up the drainage. Helicopter water drops also continued to hold the fire in Drake Creek and Pat Creek. A heavy helicopter was available, as well as 2 medium helicopters and a light helicopter for the drops. Wilderness Rangers used pack animals to transport supplies to wrap the historic cabins at Pasayten Airstrip and Spanish Camp. This work was completed on Friday. Today chippers will continue to treat slash created as part of the preparation work on the indirect fire line. Chippers will still be working on Goat Creek Road 5225 past the 200 road junction.
