Rosie Spike Camp on the Horns Mountain Fire August 20, 2018, 10:00 am Northwest Interagency Incident Management Team (NWIIMT) 9, Brian Goff, Incident Commander Contact us at: HornsMountainInfo2018@gmail.com Fire Information: 505-302-5008 (GoogleVoice - Leave message for call back) InciWeb Maps and Updates: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6138/ NORTHPORT WA – One hundred and sixty firefighters rolled out of their tents in the new Rosie Spike Camp on the Horns Mountain Fire Monday morning. The Horns Spike Camp was set up on Wednesday. Fire managers established spike camps for the Horns Mountain crews for two reasons. To reach the fireline from the Incident Command Post in Northport required more than an hour’s drive each direction on rough, narrow forest roads. A camp spiked out closer to the fireline will decrease driving hazards, and increase both the time crews can spend on the fireline as well as how much rest they get. Firefighters, many with their...

Boyds Fire Update - August 23, 2018 (Boyds Fire Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - August 23, 2018 - 11:50am
Kettle Falls, WA - The Boyds Fire is located 3 miles west of Kettle Falls, WA. The footprint of the fire is 3,488 acres and is 54 percent contained. Planned burnouts, within the fires containment line, will increase acres burned. The fire continues to burn in a mixture of timber litter, slash, brush and grass. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Yesterday, crews worked to burnout excessive fuels and vegetation along the western side of the fire, inside the containment line. Due to interior active fire behavior, fire officials chose to continue burnout operations throughout the night in an attempt to, “reduce fuels and protect the line on our terms rather than during the daytime when conditions were less favorable” said Tony Gilmer, Strategic Operations Section Chief. Fire officials chose to continue burnout operations overnight while conditions remained favorable. Work was slow but steady burning small sections and then controlling the burn area. Crews monitored the...

Watson Creek Fire Daily Update 8-23-2018 (Watson Creek Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - August 23, 2018 - 9:23am
Firefighters on the line today will be working against increased winds over the fire area. Fire behavior is expected to be very active by late morning. Last night crews were able to catch any spotting across fire lines even as visibility on the fire decreased, and were able to conduct successful firing operations in the Hadley Butte area, approximately 4 miles west of Paisley. The total acreage is now at 40,272. A 6,500-gallon heliwell has been established at Coffee Pot Flat to reduce turn-around times on water drops for the helicopters working hot spots. Visibility remains a concern for aviation resources and may be reduced by smoke from this and surrounding fires through mid-afternoon. A dry cold front is predicted to bring gusty winds with lower relative humidity recoveries to the fire area today through Friday. Southerly winds in the morning are expected to gradually become westerly and eventually northwesterly. Winds are forecast to be strongest in the afternoon and...
