White River and Irving Peak Fires Spanish Language Update August 24, 2022 (White River Wildfire)
Operaciones:...
White River and Irving Peak Fires Update August 24, 2022 (White River Wildfire)
Plain, WA – The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. Suppression Strategy: Firefighters are using indirect attack methods, because the very steep and inaccessible terrain makes direct attack dangerous and ineffective. Crews are continuing chipping and brushing operations on existing roads to be used as fire lines if needed. Firefighters continue to look for opportunities to build direct fire line. In this region, large fire growth is created by hot, dry and windy weather. There is more than a month of fire season remaining for the region. If fire behavior and fire weather align, there is still potential for active fire growth in this area. It will take an extended period of wet weather to fully contain these fires.Operations: Crews have been making excellent progress on road preparations. Chipping is completed along the Sears Creek Road....
Cedar Creek Fire Update, Aug 24, 2022 (Cedar Creek Fire Wildfire)
Current Situation: Continued helicopter water drops on the southeast portion, cooled the fire in the location of the planned handline to be completed through wilderness. These cooling efforts slowed fire growth and enable firefighters to safely work in the area. Crews camped on the west side of Waldo Lake, near trail #3590 just outside of the eastern boundary of Waldo Lake Wilderness and are working to establish direct fireline as close to the fire’s edge as possible to stop spread to the south. Along Black Creek Road crews and heavy equipment removed fire weakened trees that have fallen or have the potential to fall, to provide for firefighter firefighter safety and continued access. Four miles south of the fire, hand crews are improving the trail moving west from Fuji Mountain Trailhead toward Eagle Creek Road. Hand crews on the Slapjack Fire completed the fireline and hose lay and the fire has been holding within the established fireline Today’s Activities: Helicopters will...
