Some spotting occurred across Big Boulder Creek drainage and FSR 436. Two Large Air Tankers (LATs) dropped retardant along the southern flank to slow progression into the nearby Badger Creek drainage. A cold front is expected to move through the fire area late Friday afternoon into Saturday, which has the potential to produce strong winds. Firefighters and heavy equipment have continued prepping and removing brush along FSR 45 and FSR 537 to connect indirect lines along the western and northern fire edges. Current Situation: Fire crews in Waldo Lake Wilderness completed one half mile of fireline to the west primarily using water from small streams. Two additional hotshot crews were inserted in the wilderness to assist in constructing this key piece of handline. Heavy equipment continued building direct fireline to the east from Koch Road toward the wilderness with a goal of joining both the hand and equipment lines. Timber sawyers continued cutting hazard trees along Black Creek Road making it safer for firefighters and heavy equipment to continue fire suppression operations. Helicopters were actively supporting fire crews with bucket drops to cool the fire along the southern and southeastern flanks. Smoke: We should see light smoke in most of the forecast area. Oakridge will probably experience little smoke today. Areas east of the fire, including Waldo Lake and La Pine, will probably receive more smoke than yesterday. Cresent Lake will probably have overall Moderate air quality with periods of lighter smoke mid-day. The Windigo Fire is not producing significant amounts of smoke.

Highlights: Lightning started the White River and Irving Peak Fires on August 11. They are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. Both fires are under an “indirect” suppression strategy. Brush and small trees are being cleared and chipped along the White River and Little Wenatchee Roads, to prepare these roads for use as containment lines if the fires reach them.Operations: Yesterday, mop up continued on a small lightning-caused fire north of the White River Road caused by Monday’s lightning. Chipping operations along White River Road near Sears Creek Road were completed. Chipping was completed along the lower five-mile stretch of the Little Wenatchee Road. Work now will move northwest up the Little Wenatchee Road. Perimeter lines holding on Rum Creek Fire MERLIN, Ore. – Firefighters continue to hold on the Rogue River north perimeter control feature, and are working to minimize the size of the fire footprint. Since Northwest Incident Management Team 13 assumed command Sunday, helicopters have dropped more than a half‐million gallons of water on the Rum Creek Fire. Fixed‐wing aircraft have dropped a quarter‐million gallons of retardant. Fire: The White River and Irving Peak Fires are burning close to each other on steep slopes a few miles west of Lake Wenatchee. They have burned 2,267 acres. Firefighters are chipping and brushing, as well as using heavy equipment, to improve existing roads into fire lines. Slightly increased winds are forecast for portions of the fire, and there are pockets where active fire behavior is expected today. Smoke:  Winds are still gentle enough to keep most of the smoke in the vicinity of the fire and Lake Wenatchee in the morning. As seen in recent days, some smoke will move down the Wenatchee River drainage. Expect overall GOOD conditions from Leavenworth to Wenatchee, with some smoke noticeable in late morning and afternoon. Winds from the W and SW in late afternoon will move the smoke eastward. Rum Creek Fire closure area expanded  Galice Road closed from Almeda County Park to Grave Creek                                                                                         MERLIN, Ore. – Due to increased fire activity, officials have closed the Galice Road and surrounding public lands on both sides of the river between Almeda County Park and Grave Creek for public and firefighter safety.  Josephine County Sheriff has issued a Level 1 - BE READY evacuation notice for the areas south and west of the Rogue River and north of Bear Camp Road, including Rand, Galice, and Galice Creek Road.  A structure protection division is working to reduce fuels around homes in the area in case blowing sparks or embers start new fires near residential areas.   Tuesday, crews structure-wrapped the historic Whiskey Creek Cabin with an aluminum fire blanket material designed to protect structures from...
