Smoke: Yesterday's afternoon winds brought clearer conditions to the western Cascade region. The Whitewater fire continues to produce smoke and haze impacting Breitenbush and Detroit. Smoke from the Jones, Rebel and Horse Creek Complex Fires continues to impact the communities of Oakridge and Mckenzie Bridge. Other fires in Oregon and Northern California will also continue to greatly impact these areas as well. Smoke is expected to hang in canyons throughout the day. Light variable winds will not clear out smoke significantly throughout the day. Fire: Several fires burning on the Willamette National Forest continute to impact neighboring communities. Fire activity may increase today from the higher temperatures and low relative humidity. A Fire Weather Watch is in place for tomorrow. Following the advice of the Chetco Bar Incident Management Team, and based on the current fire behavior, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office has expanded a Level 2 Evacuation Order to include all areas along Winchuck River Road east of and include Peavine Ridge Road. Level 2 Evacuation (Be Ready) means residents within this area should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. This level indicates there is significant danger to your area, and residents should either voluntarily relocate to a shelter or with family/friends outside of the affected area, or if choosing to remain, to be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice. Residents MAY have time to gather necessary items, but doing so is at their own risk. Camas Valley, Oregon – While the Horse Prairie Fire had another day of significant growth, firefighters achieved success through a well-choreographed burnout operation on the west side of the fire in advance of a predicted “Red Flag Warning”. As of Thursday evening the work had been completed and it was reported that much of the smoke visible from Highways I-5 and 42 was from interior burning and not a direct threat to the fire control line. Late in the afternoon a reported “roller”, a flaming chunk of wood, had rolled across the fireline that firefighters were working to extinguish. A coordinated effort between helicopters and air tankers minimized fire spread south of Cow Creek. Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory Issued - SW Oregon (Staley Fire Wildfire)

The National Interagency Coordination Center in Boise, Idaho has issued a "Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory" for all wildland firefighters in southwest Oregon. The Advisory warns of the "Potential for extreme fire behavior with high potential for crown involvement, prolific spotting and rapid fire escalation due to extremely dry fuel conditions in Southwest Oregon." Firefighters responding to new 50 acre fire in Lake Chelan area Fire: Uno Peak Fire Containment: 0% Acres: 50 Start Date: August 30, 2017 Cause: Unknown Location: 15 miles NW of Manson, WA Fuels/Topography: Timber, grass, rugged terrain Today: Firefighters are responding to a new wildfire in the Uno Peak area located 15 miles northwest of Manson, WA. The Uno Peak Fire is estimated at approximately 50 acres. At this time, fire managers are utilizing ground based firefighters as well as air tankers and helicopters to respond. Three small and one large airtankers and three helicopters are assisting with aerial water delivery. State Route 410 daytime reopening (Norse Peak Fire Wildfire)

As of 7:00 a.m. on Friday September 1, State Route 410 east of Chinook Pass will be open for daytime through-travel, under the guidance of a pilot car between Morse Creek (milepost 74.5) and Union Creek (milepost 79). Eastbound and westbound traffic will alternate, and drivers should expect at least 30 to 40-minute delays depending on traffic volumes. At 7:00 p.m. both lanes of travel will be available and the road will be open, as normal, through the night. Each day, until further notice, from 7:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m., the pilot car system will be reinstated so firefighters can work safely over one of the lanes. A full closure could happen again with little notice, as fire conditions can change rapidly. Access to campsites and trailheads between Morse Creek and Hells Crossing is strictly prohibited due to fire danger and local Closure by the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
