7/28/18 Natchez Fire Update (Natchez Fire Wildfire)
Weather & Fire Behavior: Critical fire weather continue today for the third day in a row across the fire area. Winds will increase in the afternoon, pushing the smoke layer off the fire. Once the smoke layer lifts, fire activity is expected to increase significantly. West-northwest winds are to increase again on Saturday afternoon, with gusts up to 15 mph which can cause extreme fire behavior, resulting in active surface spread, single and group tree torching with crown runs possible. These conditions have the ability to cause the fire to spot half a mile to a mile away. Yesterday’s Activities: Crews worked to contain the fire west of 18N30 road, south of Little Grayback Mountain, east of Dunn Creek, and north of South Fork Indian and Copper Creek. Overnight crews were able to conduct low intensity burning operations along the 4810 road in the vicinity of Little Grayback Mountain. The weather conditions in the late afternoon contributed to a significant increase in fire activity...
Garner Complex Morning Update for July 28 (Garner Complex Wildfire)
Members of the public have a chance today to get information first-hand at a public meeting. The meeting is at 3 p.m. TODAY (Saturday), at North Valley High School, 6741 Monument Drive, Grants Pass. Volatile, erratic fire activity continues, particularly on the Taylor Creek Fire. The hot, dry weather conditions in the region promote fire growth and make it harder for firefighters to suppress the fire. Fire managers say there is active fire behavior on just about every area of the fire, particularly around the perimeter. A red flag warning is in place for the third straight day because of continued hot, dry and windy conditions. Today’s red flag warning is from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. A red flag warning indicates that conditions are prime for increased fire activity. Taylor Fire: Structure task forces and wildland firefighters are working together, especially in the following road areas: Limpy Cr. Rd, Shan Cr. Rd, W. Pickett Rd, Pickett Rd., Galice Rd, and Taylor Cr. Rd. areas where...

South Umpqua Complex Daily Update 7-28-18 (South Umpqua Complex Wildfire)
Weather and fuel conditions aligned Friday, creating an increase in fire activity on Columbus Fire and Miles Fire. A pocket of dry air passed over the South Umpqua Complex during the afternoon. The very low humidity and gusting winds caused both fires to develop large plumes of smoke visible from a long distance. Deep layers of fuels on the ground contributed to fire intensity. Snowshoe Fire was quiet yesterday, staying within its control lines. Fire personnel continue to mop up residual heat. On Friday, Columbus Fire made a push to the south in the Black Canyon drainage, reaching part of the 600 road. Gusting winds carried embers, resulting in multiple spot fires up to ½ mile south of the main fire edge. Firefighters needed to pull back to a safer area north of the blaze until fire behavior moderated. Firefighters have started burning out along the 700 road and plan to extend the burnout along the 2925 road to try to corral the southwest part of the fire. Yesterday Miles Fire...

Yesterday’s Activities: Fire crews continued to prep roads to the north, east and south end of the fire to provide an alternative to the primary control lines. Fire activity increased in the northeast corner of the fire in the late afternoon. The increase in fire activity resulted in a 3 mile run and several spots across containment lines to the east.
