 NW Team 12 is coordinating with the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Fremont-Winema National Forest, and South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) to hold Virtual Community Meetings today. There will be an English Virtual Community Meeting at 5:15 PM and a Spanish Virtual Community Meeting at 6 PM on Facebook Live. The videos will be posted on both Lake County Chamber of Commerce sites as well as the Fremont-Winema National Forest page at http://www.facebook.com/R6FWNF and the SCOFMP page at http://www.facebook.com/SCOFMPFIREINFO for those who would like to view the meeting later. The Crane Fire is burning in the mountains 10 miles southeast of Lakeview, Oregon. Announcement: A Public Meeting will be held at 6:00 pm, PST, Friday, August 21, 2020 for the Green Ridge Fire. This meeting will be livestreamed to help meet recommendations for minimizing the spread of COVID-19. To join the meeting, go to Facebook https://www.facebook.com/NorthwestTeam10/live/Yesterday, high afternoon winds pushed the fire across dozer lines on the eastern edge of the fire. Crews and dozers worked overnight to re-establish a line on the perimeter of the fire and firefighters will hold and improve this line today. Although cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity will help today’s efforts, sustained afternoon winds will continue to challenge existing fire lines to the east.The fire continued to move slowly down the flank of Green Ridge on the western side of the fire. Due to steep slopes, hand crews will continue working to establish and hold containment lines on this portion of the fire, as well as improving the 1120 road to be used as the fire line....

Fire Summary:Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 2 (Incident Commander Chris Cline) assumed command of the Steet Mountain Complex and Laurel Fires last night at 1800. Fire camp will be located at the Long Creek School. Six of the fires, burning on ODF protected lands, will be managed as a complex in the area around Monument, Oregon. NEWS  RELEASE : Friday, August 21, 2020 The White River Fire now stands at 500 acres.  Management of the fire transferred at 6 am today from the local Type 3 incident management team to the Type 2 Northwest Interagency Incident Management Team 9 (NWIIMT 9), Incident Commander Brian Goff.  Type 2 teams are called in when the fire becomes more complicated or needs more resources than the local team can provide.  The team’s incident command post is in Tygh Valley. The fire is located in the Mt Hood National Forest, just south of Forest Road 48, 13 miles SE of Government Camp and 8 miles from Sportsman’s Park. Today’s plan is to continue establishing line along the east and west flanks of the fire where terrain is difficult and secure existing line. Firefighters will also prepare highway 48 for firing operations, and re-enforce the anchor point and established line. Firefighters working overnight made significant progress conducting burn-out operations in the vicinity of Wannacut Lake and around Palmer Lake lodge. Today crews will focus on mopping-up hot spots and structure protection while reinforcing and improving fire lines. More burn-out operations may happen, but this will be dependent on favorable weather conditions and wind direction. This afternoon, a cold front is forecast to arrive over the fire bringing strong wind gusts up to 40 mph, challenging the strength of fire lines. Prineville, Oregon – Northwest Incident Management Team 8 Incident Commander Doug Johnson, has assumed management of the Frog Fire as of 6:00 a.m. today. The Frog Fire is burning in steep terrain in the Maury Mountains on the Ochoco National Forest, and on nearby private range and timber lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry as well as lands managed by the Prineville District Bureau of Land Management. Erratic winds remain a challenge for firefighters as fire behavior remains active in hot and dry conditions.Last night the fire made a push to the northeast and firefighters will concentrate efforts there today. Firefighters are looking for opportunities to hold the fire on preliminary containment lines but are challenged by several spot fires that have jumped over those lines.  This update is for the P-515 Fire and Lionshead Fire burning on the Warm Springs Reservation. Lightning has been determined to be the cause of both of these fires. These fires are 14 miles west of the Warm Springs community. An Incident Command Post has been established at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. The Quartz Butte Fire is in mop-up with no new fire activity to report. Suppression priorities include limiting the spread of the fires, protecting structures, and minimizing the impacts to important cultural and natural resources. The P-515 and Lionshead Fires are actively burning in areas of timber with grass, shrub, and patchy conifer understory. In many areas there are scattered snags and dense stands of young trees.  Prineville, Ore. – Effective immediately, Ochoco National Forest officials have put in place an area closure for the Frog Fire burning in the Maury Mountains on the Ochoco National Forest. The Frog Fire, which started August 16 and is now estimated at 3,700 acres, is burning in the steep and rugged terrain of the Maury Mountains in heavy timber and now onto adjacent private rangelands and land managed by the Prineville District Bureau of Land Management.   The following area closure is in place (see map for details):   All lands managed by the US Forest Service west of NFSR (National Forest System Road) 17 in the Maury Mountains. Jefferson County, Oregon – The Green Ridge fire started on August 16 approximately 12 miles northwest of Sisters, Oregon. High daytime temperatures and afternoon winds yesterday pushed the fire across containment lines on the eastern edge of the fire. In one spot, the fire crossed the FS 11 Road, and firefighters quickly caught that edge with a dozer line. The fire continued to back down the west side of Green Ridge and rolling material on the northwest edge of the fire caused a small area of slop-over overnight. The fire is currently mapped at 1,937 acres.Today, firefighters will continue to use dozers to create containment lines on the eastern 2/3 of the fireline, while crews hold and improve the line through the heat of the day. Where the fire continues to back down the steep slopes of Green Ridge, firefighters will dig handline to stop the fire’s progress.
