September 6, 2020  Olympic National Park Fire Information 360-565-2986  Mt. Lena Fire Shows Activity After Two Weeks of No Smoke                                        Reconnaissance flights conducted by Olympic Interagency Fire Management on September 4th and 5th revealed continued fire activity on the Mt. Lena Fire. The half-acre fire is located in extremely steep, inaccessible terrain approximately 0.5 miles east of Lena Lake in the southeast portion of the Olympic National Forest. The Mt. Lena Fire started on August 16 after a series of lightning strikes during high fire conditions caused numerous fires on the Olympic Peninsula. The use of rappelers and helicopter water drops during initial attack were unsuccessful in containing the fire. The Mt. Effective at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, the remaining evacuation notices for the Sweet Creek MP2 Fire are canceled.Sweet Creek Road - The Level 1 (Be Ready) Evacuation Notice is canceled.Hadsall Creek Road - The Level 2 (Be Set) Evacuation noticed is canceled.The evacuation notice for residents on Bernhardt Creek and Duncan Island roads was canceled on Friday, September 4. Sweet Creek Road remains closed between Highway 126 and milepost 3. While the immediate danger from wildfire has passed in that area, significant damage to the hillsides above and below Sweet Creek Road and the falling debris require continued closure for the safety of residents and other road users. Lane County Road & Bridge Maintenance will evaluate the condition of Sweet Creek Road during the next few days to determine whether the road can safely reopen. MAPLETON, Ore.—Management of the Sweet Creek Milepost 2 Fire will transition tomorrow at 7 a.m. from Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team 1 to a smaller type 4 organization. As containment of the fire moves past 80% and mop up operations extend nearly 300 feet into the interior of the burn, ODF’s Western Lane District will resume responsibility for the fire. After the transition, crews will continue to monitor control lines and repair impacts from fire suppression activities.Crews today and tonight will continue mop up and backhaul unneeded equipment. Most resources will be released from the fire over the next two days, though a small transition team will remain. Containment will be near 100% when the team departs. EVANS CANYON FIRE Evans Canyon Fire continues to burn about 8 miles north of Naches, Washington, and into Kittitas County. Results of an infrared flight estimate the fire to be 75,817 acres. Today will be sunny and warm, with temperatures in the mid-90s in the valleys with NW winds 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. Tonight through Tuesday the fire area will experience increasing winds, shifting to the northeast and gusting to 35 mph.   Yesterday’s Operations: Fire crews made significant progress on the fire, increasing containment to 40%. As a result, most of the southern portion of the fire around N. Wenas Road is now secured. Fire behavior was minimal, consisting mostly of the consumption of internal unburned islands and brush and riparian vegetation along the Yakima River. Crews continued to work on extinguishing remaining hot spots, securing existing lines, and mopping up. Firefighters are in the process of a burnout operation to improve the southwest portion of the fire line near Clear Creek. This technique reinforces the fire perimeter by removing vegetation between the containment line and the fire's edge.

Special Safety Alert: Residents on 3 Mile Road and Dodson Road in Wamic may see increased fire traffic today, Saturday, September 5th through Sunday, September 6th.Fire traffic will be diverted around Wamic to avoid congestion from this weekend’s Sportsman’s Grass Car Races.  Best of luck to the

Warm Springs, Oregon - This update is for the P-515 and Lionshead Fires, burning on the Warm Springs Reservation.  Both fires are being managed for full suppression.Current Status:  The perimeter of the P-515 Fire is completely lined. Hand crews will improve existing containment lines, locate and mitigate hazard trees and grid and patrol for spot fires within existing hand and dozer lines to meet agency standards.    The Lionshead Fire is now 11,777 acres and 31% contained.  The fire remains within the control lines on the northern, eastern, and southern perimeters, where crews are mopping up and securing control lines. Active fire continues within the Whitewater River drainage, pushing westward. The southwest flank of the fire has crossed Parker Creek.
