Middle Fork Complex and Knoll Fire Daily Update 8/11/2021 (Knoll Fire Wildfire)
Kwis Fire: Fire growth is generally at the southern and western perimeter in the steep slopes of the Salmon Creek drainage. Firefighters are working to secure the line directly at the fire’s edge, using strategic burnout to add depth and strengthen fire lines while also using dozers and hand crews to establish indirect fire lines to the southwest of the fire. Containment lines on most of the western, northern, and eastern side are identified or in place. Last night crews installed hose lines to assist with containment efforts and night operations for the Kwis Fire are ongoing. Smoke and poor visibility continue to limit the use of aircraft until later in the day. The Middle Fork Complex has been declared a conflagration. The Oregon State Fire Marshal Red Incident Management Team arrived on 8/10/21 and established Unified Command with PNW Team 3. August 11 Update 11 a.m. (Bull Complex (formerly Janus Complex) Wildfire)
Firefighters have completed line construction in the high priority areas. These areas are where the Janus and Kola Fires are predicted to move towards the control line first.The Round Lake and Ogre Fires are in patrol status and have been contained since August 7. The photo above shows the Cascade Type 2 Initial Attack Crew constructing handline. Like many firefighters out on fires this summer, many of these crew members have left their trail, fisheries or engineering jobs to support the wildfire efforts. This crew is made up of employees from National Parks and National Forests in Washington state. Wednesday temperatures on the fire are forecasted to be 90-94F with relative humidity in the 22-26%. Nighttime humidity forecasted to be around 45%. Winds will be primarily out of the northwest. Ridgetop wind speed 1-4 mph, becoming 5-9 mph with gusts to 17. Increased fire behavior is expected

Active suppression and burn out operations on Poole Creek CANYONVILLE, Ore.—Firefighters are engaged on two fronts on Poole Creek. First, actively suppressing fire growth on the southeast flank of the fire and anywhere hot spots are found beyond control lines. Second, conducting strategic burn outs to strengthen fire lines. Overall containment on the Complex stands at 23 percent. The recent increase in fire size is all from Poole Creek, which has burned over 3,000 acres. This is the natural progression of the fire as it moves north down two canyons. Active burning with runs up to the ridgetops has challenged firefighters to catch and corral large hot spots. Last night, firefighters conducted three successful burn outs to secure ridgetop control lines. Today, they’ll keep working to contain fires they located earlier on a flank of the east ridge. Orient, WA - The Nine Mine Fire is located 4.5 miles south / southeast from Laurier, WA. This lightning caused fire started on Wednesday, August 4th and has burned approximately 139 acres of forested land. An air quality advisory is in effect through Friday afternoon for eastern Lane County and Southeast Linn County. Air quality over the next several days will reach Unhealthy levels at times through Friday. Smoke Discussion Today we will see higher localized smoke impacts for communities around Oakridge, Cascara/Lowell, and McKenzie Bridge due to close proximity to active wildfires. Oakridge will see Unhealthy air quality with periods of Very Unhealthy until mid-afternoon. In the late afternoon and evening favorable winds will begin to cycle smoke out of Oakridge providing some relief. From La Pine north to Bend, air quality will be Good to Moderate most of the day with potential periods of USG in the afternoon hours. GLIDE, Ore. – Ground resources are putting the final touches on primary, alternate and contingency lines today in preparation for ignition operations Thursday, on both the Rough Patch Complex and Jack Fire. “With the uptick in fire weather, it’s likely we will need to take action to secure portions of our containment lines,” said John Spencer, operations section chief for Northwest 13 Incident Management Team. “We will meet the fire where it pushes us with ignition operations if needed.” Umpqua National Forest’s Wolf Creek Hotshots and other local resources will assist with firing operations.
