Red Flag Warning issued August 1 at 2:12PM PDT until August 1 at 8:00PM PDT by NWS Medford OR

August 1, 2024 - 2:12pm
...Isolated to scattered thunderstorms Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon... .A deep layer monsoonal moisture will push into the region Friday afternoon and evening. This will be followed by a potent shortwave expected to pass through the area late Friday night through Saturday afternoon. This is likely to result in isolated thunderstorms beginning as early as Friday afternoon, with isolated thunderstorms a possibility late Friday night into Saturday morning. Another round of thunderstorms is anticipated Saturday afternoon, with moderate confidence in scattered coverage along and east of the Cascades. ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING FOR ABUNDANT LIGHTNING ON DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONE 280... The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Fire Weather Watch, which is in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday evening. * IMPACTS...For today, strong winds combined with low relative humidity can lead to rapid growth and spread of new and existing fires. For Saturday, abundant lightning on dry fuels will increase the risk of new fire starts. Additionally, gusty outflow winds will allow for new and existing fires to grow rapidly. * AFFECTED AREA...For today: the eastern and southern portions of fire weather zone 280, including the Scott Valley and eastern periphery of the Shelly fire perimeter and the southern most portions of fire weather zone 623 south of Highway 140. For Saturday, all of fire weather zones 280 and 623. * WIND...South winds 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. * HUMIDITY...8 to 13 percent. * THUNDERSTORMS...Isolated to scattered thunderstorms, with the greatest coverage anticipated Saturday afternoon. Storms will initially start off dry Friday afternoon/evening, then trend wetter early Saturday and Saturday afternoon. Despite the wet nature of the thunderstorms, lightning strikes outside of precipitation cores are possible and cause for concern. * OUTFLOW WINDS...Gusts up to 40 to 50 mph. These outflow winds can travel up to 50 miles away from the thunderstorm that caused it. * DETAILED URL...View the hazard area in detail at https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/?wfo=mfr Red Flag Warning 2024-08-01T14:12:00-07:00 2024-08-01T14:12:00-07:00 2024-08-01T14:12:00-07:00 2024-08-02T05:00:00-07:00 Actual Update Met Expected Severe Likely Western Klamath National Forest; Southern Oregon Cascades SAME 006093 SAME 041019 SAME 041029 SAME 041035 UGC CAZ280 UGC ORZ623 AWIPSidentifier RFWMFR WMOidentifier WWUS86 KMFR 012112 NWSheadline RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT THIS EVENING FOR STRONG GUSTY WIND AND LOW RH FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONE 280 BLOCKCHANNEL EAS BLOCKCHANNEL NWEM BLOCKCHANNEL CMAS VTEC /O.CON.KMFR.FW.W.0017.000000T0000Z-240802T0300Z/ eventEndingTime 2024-08-02T03:00:00+00:00 expiredReferences w-nws.webmaster@noaa.gov,urn:oid:2.49.0.1.840.0.59b2ab2a49a8e477295389ff95b7dd243fe98544.001.2,2024-07-31T13:23:00-07:00 w-nws.webmaster@noaa.gov,urn:oid:2.49.0.1.840.0.070075c74b7fbc0f8d5df8b4bedc3882dcf6c846.001.1,2024-07-31T16:45:00-07:00

Air Quality Alert issued August 1 at 10:13AM PDT by NWS Medford OR

August 1, 2024 - 10:13am
Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Pollution Advisory...in effect until noon PDT Friday. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality advisory for Jackson, Klamath and Lake counties due to numerous wildfires burning in the region. DEQ also expects intermittent smoke in Eastern Douglas and Josephine counties through at least Friday due to smoke from surrounding fires. The wildfire smoke combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather and planned burn operations. Smoke can irritate the eyes and lungs and worsen some medical conditions. People most at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: - Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. - Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. - People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. - Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems. - Avoid using wood-burning stoves and other sources of indoor smoke if possible.
