In particular, we would like to thank the Sisters School District and the Sisters Middle School for allowing the team to use their property as our Incident Command Post. Detroit, OR Aug.19, 2020 – Fire management of the Beachie Creek fire will transition from a Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT) to being managed by a National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) team. Green Ridge Fire Update - August 22 (Green Ridge Wildfire)

August 22, 2020 - 11:26am
Incident Management Team Transition: Oregon Department of Forestry Team 3 will shadow IMT 10 today and will take over management of the fire due to significant spread of the fire onto lands protected by ODF. This Type 1 Team will begin managing the fire tomorrow at 6:00 a.m.High winds yesterday afternoon challenged firefighters as the fire burned through extremely dry fuels and pushed past dozer lines on the eastern edge. An 800’ wide strip of fire spread east to the 1129 road and south of the 700 road. Multiple helicopters and air tankers helped keep the fire from spreading further. Despite this setback, weather conditions are favorable today for firefighting efforts as temperatures and winds are expected to remain lower. Crews and dozers will work to re-establish and strengthen the line on the perimeter of the fire and air support will be available to aid the ground effort. The fire continues to move slowly down the steep flank of Green Ridge on the western side. Because of these...

White River FireUdate Aug 22, 2020 --NWIIMT 9 (White River Wildfire)

August 22, 2020 - 11:19am
NEWS RELEASE : Saturday, August 22, 2020Yesterday, a cold front came through the White River Fire area and brought stronger west winds in the afternoon. This, along with lower humidity, lead to an increase in fire behavior including interior torching which led to spot fires across Forest Road 48. The road is being used a containment line. Dozers and helicopters were available to contain the spot fires.Firefighters also worked to contain slow fire movement along the east side of the fire using low intensity fire to remove fuels between the road and the main fire. The White River Fire is now at 1335 acres. The increase in acreage is due partially to better mapping and burnout operations to secure lines.Today work along Forest Road 48 continues and includes removing unburned fuels south of Forest Road 48. Crews will continue to reinforce lines to limit spread. Firefighters are relying heavily on aircraft to support firefighting in steep areas inaccessible to hand crews. Masticators, large...

Laurel Fire Update - 08.22.20 (Laurel Fire Wildfire)

August 22, 2020 - 10:05am
Fire Summary:  Good progress was made across all the fires yesterday.  The addition of resources, including local RFPA resources, helped in the suppression effort and kept the fires from significant growth during extreme conditions in the afternoon. ODF discovered a new fire near the Steet Mountain Fire.  The Threemile Fire is approximately 25 acres and is being managed in this group of fires.  Strong initial attack under extreme fire conditions helped keep the Threemile Fire at 25 acres. More accurate mapping has updated the Laurel Fire at 1,280 acres.  This fire is burning on lands managed by Prineville BLM, rangeland and ODF protected private lands six miles south of Spray in Wheeler County. Limited access to the fires, combined with dusty road conditions, have made it difficult to get water, crews, and other resources directly to the fire lines.  These factors slowed the overall progress in suppression efforts. Cooler temperatures are expected across the fires today. ...

August 22, 2020 - 10:03am
This update is for the P-515 Fire and Lionshead Fire burning on the Warm Springs Reservation. Both fires are being managed for full suppression. The Quartz Butte Fire is in mop-up with no new fire activity to report. Current Situation: In spite of the strong winds yesterday, the P-515 Fire was held within the current footprint.  Retardant and helicopter bucket work assisted firefighters in keeping the P-515 Fire from advancing further to the east.  An Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Task Force remained focused on protecting threatened residences along County Line Road (Trout Lake Road).   Yesterday, the strong westerly winds pushed the Lionshead Fire down the Whitewater River Canyon.   Aviation resources, engines and crews were able to hold the fire west of the J-100 Road and north of the Whitewater River. P-515 Fire: Crews will continue to build and improve direct and indirect containment lines on the south, west and north flanks.  Firefighters are looking for opportunities...
