To the south, firefighters worked from Slide Peak along Forest Road 8410 to tie in with dozer line.  Special StatementThe latest Air Quality Alerts and Advisories issued by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality will be posted on the "Oregon Smoke Blog". Fire and WeatherThe Middle Fork Complex is now at 21,490 acres and is 21% contained. Firing operations and an uptick in overall fire activity generated more smoke yesterday than we have seen in the past few days. A shallow inversion set up overnight and will break a bit earlier, so fire activity will also pick up earlier this afternoon. We expect hot and dry conditions again today. SmokeA fair amount of smoke was generated yesterday by the Middle Fork fires, as well as those in the Bull and Rough Patch Complexes. Some of this smoke that's still hanging aloft, will mix down as the inversions break, so we can expect air quality to gradually degrade particularly in Eugene, Fall Creek, and Oakridge. Weather and Fire:  East winds over the ridges in the fire area last night and this morning will return again tonight. Crews continue to burn out where possible to increase containment of the fires, while other crews are actively mopping up and patrolling areas that are cooler along the containment lines. The Devils Knob Complex is 40,858 acres 28% contained, the Rough Patch Complex is 37,463 acres 26% contained, and the Jack Fire is 23,987 acres 55% contained. Additional fire information can be found on Facebook and Inciweb. Smoke:  East winds pushed smoke into Roseburg and Grants Pass yesterday. Expect similar or worsening conditions today. The east winds that cleared the smoke out of Crater Lake and Chiloquin yesterday will return this morning. Summary: The Rough Patch Complex and Jack fire are being managed under a full suppression strategy using direct and indirect tactics to minimize fire spread to prevent loss of valuable resources. Firing operations are in progress and will be for the next several shifts as conditions allow.   Chaos and Little Bend Fires: The Chaos fire is at 20,513 acres and the Little Bend fire is at 7,363 acres. The north end of the Chaos received additional resources to assist with indirect line construction in preparation for additional firing operations in the coming days. Firefighters are closely monitoring the two spots off the north end. Crews are making excellent progress on the south end of the fire.
