Link: Eagle Creek Fire Update 10/24/17 with Loretta Duke, Incident CommanderTranscript: Hi I’m Loretta Duke. I’m currently the Eagle Creek IC and the last Eagle Creek IC in a long line of them. You know, the fire area, there isn’t a lot of burning going on, there’s some interior burning. There’s a lot of gravity hazards out there. Because it is such a steep hillside we regularly have debris flows that happen even before this fire happened. All the rock was being held together with moss and now that the moss isn’t there, that stuff is sliding down- even without rainfall, it’s sliding down constantly. Just driving through there, one of the crew vehicles last week damaged two tires, one of them completely flat. And the other one scarred the sidewall. Then the hazard trees, a lot of those trees are on a very steep slope and many of them are shallow rooted. They burned deep into the soil and those trees just fall over. And some of them fall over and because it’s on such a...

Inciweb Articles OR - October 23, 2017 - 9:00am
With the weather forecast this week it is unlikely that there will be new ignition of pile units on the northern half of the forest. Emigrant Creek Ranger District is going to attempt ignitions in Curry project area today. You may continue to see smoke from pile units lit over the past couple weeks. If the forest were to proceed with lighting additional units, it would occur in areas where previous ignitions have occurred. This will be weather dependent.

Chetco Bar Fire Update October 20, 2017 (Chetco Bar Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - October 20, 2017 - 11:53am
This will be the last daily update for the Chetco Bar Fire. Updates will be produced as significant events occur and be available online. The entire fire area received over an inch and a half of rain by the evening of 10/19 with more forecasted through the weekend. The rain will help to extinguish the remaining areas of heat scattered within the perimeter of the fire. However, fire officials will continue to monitor the fire closely as the thick canopy in some areas could shelter heat sources allowing them to pop back up when the area begins to dry out. Firefighters and equipment are returning to the field after a day of standing down for safety concerns due to the weather. They will resume work grading roads, finalizing suppression repair work, removing additional hazard trees brought down by high winds, and implementing Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) projects.Fire personnel will monitor the FR240 Road for any potential hotspots. Traveling through and working in the fire...

Miller Complex Update 10-19-2017 (Miller Complex Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - October 19, 2017 - 1:09pm
Limited suppression action will be taken on the Abney Fire today as heavy winds and rain are anticipated. The ridgetops of the Siskiyou Mountains were buffeted by winds of 55 mph during the night, and fire officials decided to send resources only to areas where there is quick access to paved roads at lower elevations to avoid falling trees and rain-slickened roads. Some quick winterization projects will be taken care of early this morning at higher elevations to beat the snow, such as temporarily draining and covering or removing pumps. Though winds have diminished this morning, helicopters have been unable to complete missions due to atmospheric turbulence. Weather forecasters call for rain beginning by about 1:00 pm this afternoon with nearly 8/10’s of an inch falling in the first 12 hours and up to 3 inches of snow beginning to fall at the 4000-foot level and higher during the night. On Wednesday, after days of keeping the fire above the 1065 Road at the eastern edge of the...
