Fire Update 7-6-21 10:30 am (Andrus Wildfire)
Cheney, WA – The Andrus Fire started Monday morning at approximately 11:30 am near Andrus Rd. The fire spread quickly due to low relative humidity and unseasonably dry conditions. The fire is currently estimated at 300 acres with 0% containment at this time Firefighters from Fire District 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, Airway Heights Fire, Spokane City Fire, Spokane Valley Fire, Lincoln County, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and numerous other agencies were critical in slowing the spread of the fire. The collaborative efforts and teamwork between the agencies are critical to protecting lives and property. Firefighting efforts today will focus on structure protection, containment lines and getting a good assessment of the fire. There are approximately 150 firefighters on the ground and air support is scheduled to continue throughout the day. 7/6/21 Fire Update (Lewis Rock Wildfire)
Mitchell, OR– Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team 3, led by Incident Commander Tyler McCarty, assumed command of the Lewis Rock Fire Monday evening. The arrival of the team brings in additional overhead capacity and firefighting resources. The team’s presence also relieves local assets that have been battling the fire since June 30. Persistent winds that have been challenging firefighters over the past several days finally calmed and allowed crews to hold the fire in check overnight. The fire is now estimated at about 440 acres. While an overnight infrared flight detected heat close to containment lines, firefighters have established hose lays along much of the fire’s perimeter and are beginning to mop-up towards the interior to prevent spot fires. Evening Update July 5, 2021 (Batterman RD Wildfire)
Summary: Today, fire resources have been utilizing dozers and crews to construct containment lines. Air resources, including two helicopters and three large air tankers, have also been at work to combat the fire and halt its spread. Firefighters conducted a burnout operation to assist in holding the fire’s eastern perimeter at Rock Island Grade, and the fire has remained on the west side of the Grade. The fire has been most active in the Rock Island Creek Drainage and Beaver Creek Drainage.Weather: This late afternoon, winds are blowing from the northwest at 11-14 miles per hour with gusts of 24 miles per hour. Morning Update July 5, 2021 (Batterman RD Wildfire)
The Batterman Fire started on July 4, 2021 at approximately 12:15 PM, spreading quickly in grass and brush. Numerous firefighters have been working diligently to control the fire, but suppression actions have been hampered by very active fire behavior caused by high temperatures and shifting winds. Two helicopters and airtankers were utilized in areas inaccessible by engines. As the wind shifted in the afternoon, engines responded to the area of Rock Island Grade Road to protect residences in the area. At this time, no structures have been destroyed, but evacuations remain in place. SE Washington Type 3 Interagency Incident Management Team (IMT) lead by Incident Commander Walter Escobar has assumed command of the incident as of last night. Firefighters have been working through the night to secure the perimeter near Rock Island Road, as well as continuing structure protection. Rattlesnake Fire Update – July 4, 2021 7 p.m. Current Situation –The Rattlesnake Fire has burnt 5,479 acres with 90% containment. Fire crews had a good day with mop and made significant progress in containment. With all the hard work that they have accomplished the last few days, tomorrow the T3 team and many resources will be transitioning out. The fire will be turned over to local management who will continue to staff and monitor the fire with resources from Warm Springs and Prineville BLM. Closures - South Junction road and South Junction Campground will continue to be closed. For updates check with Wasco County Sheriff’s office. Weather - Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90’s, with west winds increasing through the weekend. It is very dry with low relative humidity recoveries overnight. The fire is burning on Prineville District BLM managed lands in the area of South Junction campground, the Warm Springs Reservation and private lands. The Rattlesnake Fire continues to be managed under unified command of Warm Springs Incident Commander Lionel Smith and Type 3 Central Oregon Fire Management Service (COFMS) Incident Commander Larae Guillory. There was minimal fire activity on the reservation side of the Deschutes. On the north and west side of the fire, crews worked on mopping up hot spots along the edges and working their way into the interior. There is still work to be done seeking out hot spots and mopping up as needed along the east, south, and southwest flanks.
