Fire Update for Sunday, August 22, 2021                           Fire Information:  503-867-7924  Overall Objective:  The Rough Patch Complex and Jack Fire are being managed under a full suppression strategy using containment and confinement tactics to minimize fire spread to prevent loss of valuable resources.  Leaders’ intent is to not allow the fire to progress to the west and to protect private structures throughout the fire area by using the PACE model – Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency control Lines and to keep the fires as small as possible while working toward full containment. Closures:  The Umpqua and Willamette National Forests have area closure orders to encompass the Rough Patch, Jack, Archie Creek, and Devil's Knob Fire Areas.  The closure includes Canton Creek Campground, Musick Guard Station, and Cover Campground.  Roseburg District Bureau of Land Management’s closure area includes the Scaredman Recreation...

Inchelium, WA – Evacuation levels around the Summit Trail Fire have been reduced. More updates will follow as additional information becomes available.   These areas are now in a Level 1 Evacuation (Get Ready):   ·       Residences along Spring Creek Road and Barnaby Creek Road. ·       Residences from LaFleur Meadows, including Hall Creek Road south of Bear Springs Road to Lynx Creek Road’s junction with Hall Creek Road. ·       Intersection of BIA Road 1053 and Lynx Creek Road east to the intersection with Hall Creek Road.   All evacuation levels for residents in theTwin Lakes area and structures along Bridge Creek Road, and residents east of Seyler Valley Road to Gwen Mine Road and Cobb Creek Road have been lifted   Residents should be aware of the danger that exists in their area and monitor local media for information. Kettle Falls, WA – Northwest Incident Management Team 7 took command of the Bulldog Mountain and Mack Mountain Fires this morning at 7:00 a.m. Yesterday Team 7 shadowed Northeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team 2 assessing both fires for future operational needs. Crews will continue to work on and enforce indirect fire line and contingency lines around the fires. Firefighters will also scout out areas where they can build direct line on the Bulldog Mountain Fire. Fire behavior is expected to be minimal for both the Bulldog Mountain and the Mack Mountain fires due to the cold front moving through the area. Cooler temperatures with higher relative humidity will be in place for the next several days. Warmer temperatures will likely return, drying out fuels next week. There is a chance for thunderstorms in the area and a flood watch is in effect for the fire areas until tonight. Citizens should remain vigilant and are strongly encouraged to sign up for alerts...

Inchelium, WA – The Summit Trail Fire was started by lightning on July 12 and is burning on the Colville Reservation approximately 17 miles west of Inchelium. Terrain, wind, and vegetation type have challenged suppression efforts; however, firefighters are utilizing handline, dozer line, and defensive burning to minimize fire spread.Cooler temperatures and rain showers continue to subdue the fire, allowing crews to take a more direct attack approach on some of the less active areas of the fire. As a result, constructing fire line near the fire’s edge limits the number of acres burned. The 400 acre reduction from yesterday’s update in total acreage burned is due to more accurate mapping. Middle Fork Complex Fire Update – Saturday, August 21, 2021 – 9:00 am In preparation for transitioning command of the Middle Fork Complex on Sunday morning, Pacific Northwest Team 3 is working closely with the incoming Type 2 team (Northwest Incident Management Team 13) to share information about fire suppression strategy and efforts that have taken place over the course of the past weeks. Kwis Fire: Continued good work has brought the Kwis Fire to 90 percent containment. Firefighters continue to hold containment lines, and mop-up and patrol is ongoing. Crews remain vigilant, monitoring areas where smoke is visible from the large trees, stumps, or downed logs that are burning well within the perimeter. Residents can expect to see smoke for several days, even weeks, depending on weather. Lakeview, OR- Wildland crews on the Patton Meadow Fire are focused on completing burnout and mop up operations. Favorable wind conditions overnight allowed crews to make good progress on burnout operations on the fire’s north end, while the west, south, and east perimeters of the fire are focused on mop up and reconfirming the extent to which the fire has been completely extinguished within the fire’s perimeter.A detailed explanation of the burnout operation process was covered in last night’s Facebook Live Information meeting. Yesterday there was increased activity seen along the southeast corner of the fire in the Slide Ridge area. Super scooper aircraft were used extensively to help reduce the spread to south and east.
