Total snow accumulations of 2 to 3 feet, with over 4 feet in the Douglas County Foothills, and 5 feet in the mountains of the Kalmiopsis wilderness. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. For the Winter Weather Advisory, snow expected above 1500 feet. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches possible, with 12 to 18 inches above 2000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph. * WHERE...Portions of Douglas County, eastern Curry County and Josephine County and eastern Douglas County Foothills. For the Winter Storm Warning, this includes the Kalmiopsis Wilderness and portions of Highway 138 and the Tiller-Trail Highway. For the Winter Weather Advisory, this includes portions of Interstate 5 north of Grants Pass, Highways 42, 199 and 138, Camas Mountain, Hayes Hill Summit, Sexton Summit as well as Smith and Canyon Creek Passes and the communities of Steamboat, Toketee Falls, Glendale, Selma, Cave Junction and Obrien. * WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, from 4 PM this afternoon to 10 AM PST Saturday. For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 4 AM Thursday to 10 AM PST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is some uncertainty regarding accumulation on roadways down to 1500 ft given recent warm temperatures, time of year and model road temperature forecasts in the lower 40s late tonight into early Thursday morning. However, precipitation rates could be enough to overcome this, resulting in potential winter weather impacts. This will be a long duration event and snow will not be heavy the entire time the warning and advisory are in effect. Snow is expected to be heaviest Thursday through Thursday night and again Friday afternoon into Friday night. Also the best chance for snow to accumulate on the higher passes between Grants Pass and Canyonville will be in heavier showers during the day and after dark. * View the hazard area in detail at https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/?wfo=mfr Winter Storm Warning 2024-02-28T14:03:00-08:00 2024-02-28T14:03:00-08:00 2024-02-28T16:00:00-08:00 2024-02-29T04:00:00-08:00 Actual Alert Met Expected Severe Likely Central Douglas County; Eastern Curry County and Josephine County; Eastern Douglas County Foothills SAME 041011 SAME 041019 SAME 041015 SAME 041033 UGC ORZ023 UGC ORZ024 UGC ORZ025 AWIPSidentifier WSWMFR WMOidentifier WWUS46 KMFR 282203 NWSheadline WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 10 AM PST SATURDAY ABOVE 2500 FEET... ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM THURSDAY TO 10 AM PST SATURDAY ABOVE 1500 FEET BLOCKCHANNEL EAS BLOCKCHANNEL NWEM BLOCKCHANNEL CMAS EAS-ORG WXR VTEC /O.EXT.KMFR.WS.W.0010.240229T0000Z-240302T1800Z/ eventEndingTime 2024-03-02T18:00:00+00:00 expiredReferences w-nws.webmaster@noaa.gov,urn:oid:2.49.0.1.840.0.5338b3f8cbc67f2d0b6e4004b7e6ffb0d937d205.001.2,2024-02-28T02:59:00-08:00 w-nws.webmaster@noaa.gov,urn:oid:2.49.0.1.840.0.a2e1a048b417f3d85b02464cfc7913d81c6581c2.004.2,2024-02-27T12:52:00-08:00
